摘要： An apparatus and method is adapted to provide the filter of a cigarette with an annular perpheral groove to enable air to pass directly into the fibrous body of the filter material after passing through apertures in the tipping paper. Ordinary plug wrap paper instead of a high porosity tea bag paper to wrap the fibrous filter material.The annular groove can be formed by a pair of rotating knives and a rotatable spacer with radial cutting edges which rout out material from each filter plug during conveyance of the plug on an alignment drum of a cigarette making machine. Alternatively, a plurality of closely spaced rotating knives which cut through the plug wrap paper only may be used to form a series of closely spaced annular grooves or slits in the filter periphery.

摘要： A method and apparatus for cutting hollow cylindrical members such as glass bottles includes rotary support structure on which a hollow cylindrical member may be rotated about its axis. The rotary support structure includes axially and laterally spaced support rollers with a pair of laterally spaced of the rollers adjustable toward and away from the other laterally spaced rollers to make a cut of a selected length. One support roller has a cutting edge engageable with the periphery of the supported member during rotation for forming a circular score line with a full revolution thereof. Heat is applied to the member along the score line such as by a flame, and the member is then rapidly cooled such as by quenching with water to effect a break along the score line. The edges at the break are smoothed by sanding with an abrasive material or the like.

摘要： A device for continuous chipless separation of single identical rings from a tubular workpiece, includes at least two cutting rollers which are placed about the tubular workpiece, and which operate in a same direction and are interconnected by a positive engagement. Each cutting roller includes a basic body having opposite axial ends defining an entry zone and an exit zone, respectively. The basic body has a slip bevel at the entry zone, a calibrating section at the exit zone, and a cutting screw disposed between the slip bevel and the calibrating section and including a helical main thread portion with a conical entry part and a substantially cylindrical primary part in succession of the entry part, whereby the cutting screw has at least one additional thread which is disposed between threads of the main thread portion of the cutting screw.

摘要： An apparatus is used for cutting guide tubes of a nuclear fuel assembly below an end-piece and removing the end-piece. The apparatus includes a mount which may be removably locked and centered on the end-piece. Cutting tools insertable in the guide tubes each include a hollow shaft whose end part is split by longitudinal slits into radially expandable fingers each having a cutting edge. A stem movable axially along each shaft cooperates therewith for spreading the fingers out radially and retracting them. The shafts are mounted for rotation on a plate which is vertically movable with respect to the mount by a jack and carries a motor for simultaneously rotating all shafts. The shafts are carried by an expansion unit movable vertically with respect to the plate by a jack and including the stems. A method for separating the end-piece with the apparatus is also described.

摘要： Pixels in a picture image display device are driven in such a manner that while introducing light, a quenching period is initiated in which electro optical elements in the pixels are quenched after scanning a plurality of gate lines for displaying one picture image. In other words, the pixels are driven while interposing the light quenching period in which the electro optical elements are quenched between one frame and a subsequent frame. Thereby, the phenomenon of blurred edges at the time of motion picture display, when the pixels including the electro optical elements are driven through an active matrix drive circuit, is suppressed and the picture quality of the picture image display device is improved.
