Deoxynarasin antibiotic complex, comprising 20-deoxynarasin and 20-deoxy-epi-17-narasin, is produced by submerged aerobic fermentation of Streptomyces aureofaciens NRRL 11181. 20-Deoxynarasin and 20-deoxy-epi-17-narasin are separated and isolated by chromatography. The deoxynarasin complex, 20-deoxynarasin and 20-deoxy-epi-17-narasin are antibacterial and anticoccidial agents and also increase feed-utilization efficiency in ruminants.

Reduction of 7(2-[(3R and 3S)-3-hydroxy-1-octenyl]-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl)-5-heptenoic acid by microorganisms of the genera Streptomyces, Pseudomonas and Corynebacterium is disclosed. The products 7-(2-[(3R)-3-hydroxy-1-octenyl]-5-oxo-cyclopentyl)-5-heptenoic acid(11-deoxy-15-epi-PGE.sub.2), which is novel, and 7-(2-[(3S)-3-hydroxy-1-octenyl]-5-oxo-3-cyclopentyl)-5-heptenoic acid(11-deoxy-PGE.sub.2), respectively, are useful as intermediates for the synthesis of other physiologically active ingredients.

This invention relates to a process of producing a new amylase by cultivating a strain of the particular seven species of Streptomyces; Streptomyces albus, Streptomyces aureofaciens, Streptomyces hygroscopicus, Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. angustomyceticus, Streptomyces viridochromogenes, Streptomyces flavus and Streptomyces tosaensis. These new amylases produced by the above particular species, respectively have some enzymatic activities and characteristics which are much more useful and advantageous in producing a higher yield of maltose from starch and amylose, as compared to the use of the known amylases. The starch hydrolyzate which is obtained by reacting the new amylase with starch in aqueous dispersion contains a predominant proportion of maltose and is useful as a natural sweetening material. Further, this starch hydrolyzate mainly composed of maltose is converted into a mixture of sugar alcohols mainly composed of maltitol by hydrogenating in the presence of a nickel catalyst.

This disclosure describes a process of producing 7-chloro-5a, 11a-dehydrotetracycline which comprises cultivating, under submerged aerobic conditions, strains of Streptomyces aureofaciens which are not riboflavin-deficient and are nonresponsive to Cosynthetic Factor-1, and which produce 7chloro-5a,11a-dehydrotetracycline to the exclusion of tetracycline and 7-chlorotetracycline.
