The interface apparatus includes a common conduction path coupled to both of the ultrasonic transducer and the temperature device for conducting first excitation signals to the ultrasonic transducer and the corresponding echo signals therefrom, and for conducting second excitation signals to the temperature measuring device and the response signals therefrom, and an interface circuit for governing the conduction of the first and second excitation signals over the common conduction path from their generating sources and for providing a balanced interface for receiving both of the echo signals and response signals from the common conduction path. In one embodiment, the liquid measurement signal includes a processor that is coupled to the interface circuit for receiving the echo signals and the response signals therefrom for determining liquid level in the container based on the received signals.

    摘要: In an acoustic pulse-echo ranging system, a high impedance piezoelectric transducer element is connected via a transformer to a transmitter, and also directly to a high impedance input of a receiver through a network, in parallel with the transducer element which includes a limiting resistor having a value which is low compared with the impedance of the transducer and a pair of oppositely connected diodes connected across the receiver input, the diodes being in series with the resistor and conducting to complete a damping circuit for large amplitude signals during transmission, and to limit the amplitude of signals applied to the receiver. When the signals are not of sufficient amplitude to cause the diodes to conduct, the damping circuit is normally rendered ineffective, but a further circuit is provided in parallel with the diodes to selectively switch into the network a further smaller resistance which acts both to form an attenuator at the receiver input in conjunction with the damping resistor, and to restore the damping effect. By this means, the dynamic range required by the receiver is much reduced, and effective damping can be applied selectively during reception to reduce the effect of ringing at short ranges. A tuned circuit formed with the transducer by the transformer through which the transmitter drives the transducer is tuned by means of an air gap in the transformer core, which may be adjustable.

    摘要: An ultrasonic unipolar pulse/echo instrument uses active switches and a timing and drive circuitry to control electrical energy to a transducer, the discharging of the transducer, and the opening of an electrical pathway to the receiving circuitry for the returning echoes. The active switches utilize MOSFET devices along with decoupling circuitry to insure the preservation of the unipolar nature of the pulses, insure fast transition times, and maintain broad band width and time resolution. A housing contains the various circuitry and switches and allows connection to a power supply and a movable ultrasonic transducer. The circuitry maintains low impedance input to the transducer during transmitting cycles, and high impedance between the transducer and the receiving circuit during receive cycles to maintain the unipolar pulse shape. A unipolar pulse is valuable for nondestructive evaluation, a prime use for the present instrument.

A transducer preamplifier power controller circuit prevents the operation of fuses and the tripping of circuit breakers when the relatively high power driving levels for a sonar transducer are initiated. The controller circuit gradually increases a signal level from a zero level to a maximum during the initiation of a sonar signal using a threshold level that is set to a fraction of the expected maximum, and two discrete clock frequencies, for example at 1 MHz and 2 KHz actuate interconnected digital control elements incrementally to increase the signal level during a predetermined period. This cycle is re-initiated by the next sonar signal.
