Abstract: When a communication device obtains an IP address from a DHCP server at the time of detecting link-up, an IP address of the communication device is changed before and after the link-up. When link-up is detected, the communication device determines whether or not it is necessary to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server again. Then, in a case where it is unnecessary to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server again, the communication device does not obtain the IP address from the DHCP server.

Abstract: A power meter generates a time series of observations of power drawn by a device configured to operate in an active mode and to transition through a sequence of inactive modes comprising one or more intermediate inactive modes each having a bounded time duration terminating in a final inactive mode of unbounded time duration, and further configured to transition from any of the inactive modes to the active mode in response to a device activation signal. An electronic data processing device is programmed to determine statistical characteristics of the power draw of the device in each of the inactive modes by fitting a state model to the time series of observations. The state model represents each intermediate inactive mode including its bounded time duration and further includes a probabilistic representation of the transition from any of the inactive modes to the active mode in response to a device activation signal.

Abstract: A method for minimizing power consumption of a laser printer includes receiving page description language (PDL) data corresponding to a printing task, identifying commands corresponding to the received PDL data, computing a total predicted rendering time corresponding to the identified commands, computing a print deferral time according to the total predicted rendering time wherein the print deferral time corresponds to an amount of time by which printing drum initialization can be deferred without delaying completion of the printing task, and configuring a printing drum to begin operation according to the print deferral time. Abstract: When a control circuit of a printer detects a USB connection with a host device when a power switch is in an on state in an initial state, the control circuit performs an initialization process (enumeration) (a first initialization process) which requests bus power, and performs a USB communication process and charging of a secondary cell after the first initialization process is completed (successful). When the first initialization process fails, the control circuit performs an initialization process requesting self power (a second initialization process), and does not perform charging of the secondary cell. Here, the first initialization process includes a request for a greater supply of power than the second initialization process.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus capable of changing packet patterns for determining, based on a condition of proxy ARP compatibility of a connected wireless LAN access point, communication requests to which the apparatus can respond in a power saving state, and thereby maintaining the power saving state for a longer time period. A RAM of an MFP operable in the normal state and the power saving state stores packet patterns which enable the MFP to respond to packets received in the power saving state while maintaining the power saving state. The MFP acquires proxy ARP support information from a wireless LAN access point that relays communication between the MFP and an external apparatus. The MFP determines whether or not the AP can respond to a received communication request on its behalf, and changes the packet patterns based on the determination result.
