摘要: A torch tip assembly of a plasma arc torch is provided for delivering a diffused stream of plasma arc in a gouging operation. The assembly comprises a nozzle including a nozzle body defining a central longitudinal axis extending between a proximal end and a distal end. A nozzle exit orifice of the nozzle body defines at least a bore for conducting the plasma arc therethrough. The assembly also comprises a counter bore feature, disposed relative to the distal end the nozzle body, fluidly connected to the bore and located distally relative to the bore. At least one of the bore or the counter bore feature has a non-circular cross-sectional shape in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The non-circular cross-sectional shape is configured to enable a second non-circular cross-sectional shape in the plasma arc that diffuses the plasma arc.

摘要: A consumable set is provided that is usable in a plasma arc torch to direct a plasma arc to a processing surface of a workpiece. The consumable set comprises a nozzle and an alignment surface. The nozzle includes: 1) a nozzle body defining a longitudinal axis extending therethrough, and 2) a nozzle exit orifice disposed in the nozzle body for constricting the plasma arc. The nozzle exit orifice defines an exit orifice axis oriented at a non-zero bevel angle relative to the longitudinal axis. The alignment surface is generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and substantially planar. The alignment surface is dimensioned to orient the nozzle exit orifice such that the plasma arc impinges on the processing surface of the workpiece at the bevel angle while the plasma arc torch is substantially perpendicular to the processing surface.

摘要: A film removal method and apparatus for removing a film from a substrate are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of disposing a plasma generator and a sucking apparatus over the substrate, projecting a plasma beam from the plasma generator onto the film obliquely, disposing the sucking apparatus on a reflection path of plasma projected by the plasma generator, and sucking a by-product of an incomplete plasma reaction occurring to the film so as to keep a surface of the substrate clean, with a view to overcoming the drawbacks of deposition of the by-product which results from using the plasma as a surface cleansing means under atmospheric conditions.

摘要: A single cathode plasma gun injects powder therein so that the powder exits along a central axis of an exit barrel of the gun, in order to provide improved coatings of the powder material on a workpiece. The central axis of the single cathode extends from an arc chamber and intersects with the central axis of the exit barrel so as to form an acute angle which is substantially greater than 0.degree. but no greater than 90.degree.. Examples of the acute angle include 45.degree. and 10.degree.. A powder feed passage extends along an axis which may be coincident with the central axis of the exit barrel or may form an angle with the central axis of the exit barrel of as much as 45.degree.. Consequently, the axis of the powder feed passage forms an angle with the central axis of the single cathode which is at least as great as the acute angle between the central axes of the single cathode and the exit barrel. Existing plasma guns can be retrofitted with a new anode attachment to achieve desired angles of plasma flow and powder delivery. Where the central axis of the single cathode forms an acute angle with the central axis of the exit barrel, the resulting bend in the passage extending from the arc chamber below the single cathode is disposed adjacent an entry end of the exit barrel, and the powder feed passage terminates adjacent such bend. Alternatively, the powder can be introduced into the middle of the plasma stream at the entry end of the exit barrel by a powder injector extending into the exit barrel from the wall of the passage. The single cathode can be axially adjusted to move the charged plasma region adjacent the termination of the powder feed passage, for more effective heating of the powder. The angles formed by the central axes of the single cathode and the powder feed passage relative to the central axis of the exit barrel can be adjusted relative to each other so that the injected powder is deflected along the central axis of the exit barrel, again providing for an improved coating of the powder material on a workpiece.

摘要: Disclosed is a transferred arc plasma torch in which a tubular anode is mounted in a bore at the lower end of a barrel of the torch, the bore being formed at a preselected angle to the axis of the barrel. The cathode is a length of tungsten rod which is held in a coaxial relation with the anode by cementing the end of an electrode holder, which mounts the cathode, into an insulating tube which extends through the barrel and forming a silicone rubber sleeve between the insulating tube and a bore formed in lower portions of the barrel such that the sleeve adheres to the insulating tube and the barrel. The silicone rubber sleeve and the cemented connection between the insulating tube and the cathode holder are formed adjacent one end of the anode so that the cemented end of the electrode holder is substantially fixed in relation to the anode. A tapered bore is formed in the electrode holder, coaxially with the anode, and a similar taper is formed on one end of the cathode so that the cathode can be inserted into the bore formed into the electrode holder. Shallow spiral grooves are formed in the tapered portion of the cathode and in the bore in the electrode holder and the tapered portion of the cathode is silver plated to enhance the grip of the electrode holder on the cathode.
