Abstract: A wireless power transmission system includes a wireless power transmitter, a wireless power transfer circuit electrically connectable to the at least one wireless power transmitter, and a transmitter controller. The transmitter controller is configured to perform an initial foreign object detection prior to any transmission of wireless power, the initial foreign object detection for detecting presence of a foreign object within a charge volume, the initial foreign object detection determining an initial quality factor (Q). The controller is further configured to begin wireless power transfer negotiations with one of the one or more wireless power receivers, if the initial Q has a value in a range indicating that an object in the charge volume is a wireless power receiver, and perform continuous foreign object detection, if the initial Q has the value in the range indicating that an object in the charge volume is a wireless power receiver.

Abstract: A wireless power transmitter for transmitting power to a wireless power receiver, including a controller configured to determine whether a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter; and a transmission part configured to transmit wireless power according to whether the foreign object is present, wherein the controller receives a signal including an FOD status packet from the wireless power receiver, and determines whether the foreign object is present in the charging area of the wireless power transmitter based on the FOD status packet; wherein the controller is set to be operated in a first power transfer mode when determining that the foreign object is present in the charging area, or to be operated in a second power transfer mode when determining that the foreign object is not present in the charging area; and wherein the controller determines whether the foreign object is present in the charging area based on information other than information included in the FOD status packet, while being operated in any one of the first power transfer mode and the second power transfer mode.

The power transmitter further includes a shielding comprising a ferrite core and defining a cavity, the cavity configured such that the ferrite core substantially surrounds all but the top face of the coil. The power transmitter includes at least one magnet, the at least one magnet configured to attract at least one receiver magnet when a power receiver is proximate to a surface associated with the power transmitter.

The method comprises supplying DC input power to the wireless power transmission device. It further comprises monitoring a first variable associated with the wireless power transmission device, and monitoring a second variable associated with the wireless power transmission device, wherein at least one of the first and the second variable is derived from a switching waveform. It further comprises determining, based on at least one of the first variable, the second variable, and the relationship between the first variable and the second variable, the magnetically induced voltage on the coil of the wireless power transmission device.

Abstract: A first electronic device for wirelessly transmitting power may include a power transmission circuit, memory, a pulse generator, a foreign object detection circuit configured to detect a foreign object located in a path in which power is wirelessly transmitted through the power transmission circuit, and a control circuit. The control circuit may be configured to wirelessly transmit power to a second electronic device, based on an alternating current (AC) input voltage applied to the power transmission circuit, generate a trigger signal synchronized with a first time corresponding to a specified voltage of the input voltage through the pulse generator, store an output value of the foreign object detection circuit in the memory based on the trigger signal, the output value being identified at the first time, continuously obtain the output value stored in the memory from the memory during a specified time until before the trigger signal of a next period is received at the memory from the pulse generator, and detect the foreign object based on the output value obtained during the specified time.

Abstract: A power beaming system includes a power beam transmitter arranged to transmit the power beam, and a power beam receiver arranged to receive the power beam from the power beam transmitter. A power beam transmission source is arranged to generate a laser light beam for transmission by the power beam transmitter from a first location toward a remote second location. A beam-shaping element shapes the laser light beam, at least one diffusion element uniformly distributes light of the shaped laser light beam, and a projection element illuminates a power beam receiving element of predetermined shape with the shaped laser light beam. At the power beam receiver, a diffusion surface diffuses a portion the power beam specularly reflected from the power beam receiver.

Further, when a living object or a metal foreign object is detected around a primary coil of a power transfer device that transfers power to a power reception device of a vehicle that is traveling, the processor deletes identification information on the primary coil registered in an identification information list of the primary coil, and when the living object or the metal foreign object is not detected, the processor performs compatibility check and service authentication between the power reception device of the vehicle and the power transfer device.
