    Abstract: A wireless power transmission system includes a wireless power transmitter, a wireless power transfer circuit electrically connectable to the at least one wireless power transmitter, and a transmitter controller. The transmitter controller is configured to perform an initial foreign object detection prior to any transmission of wireless power, the initial foreign object detection for detecting presence of a foreign object within a charge volume, the initial foreign object detection determining an initial quality factor (Q). The controller is further configured to begin wireless power transfer negotiations with one of the one or more wireless power receivers, if the initial Q has a value in a range indicating that an object in the charge volume is a wireless power receiver, and perform continuous foreign object detection, if the initial Q has the value in the range indicating that an object in the charge volume is a wireless power receiver.

    Abstract: A wireless power transmitter for transmitting power to a wireless power receiver, including a controller configured to determine whether a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter; and a transmission part configured to transmit wireless power according to whether the foreign object is present, wherein the controller receives a signal including an FOD status packet from the wireless power receiver, and determines whether the foreign object is present in the charging area of the wireless power transmitter based on the FOD status packet; wherein the controller is set to be operated in a first power transfer mode when determining that the foreign object is present in the charging area, or to be operated in a second power transfer mode when determining that the foreign object is not present in the charging area; and wherein the controller determines whether the foreign object is present in the charging area based on information other than information included in the FOD status packet, while being operated in any one of the first power transfer mode and the second power transfer mode.

    Abstract: A first electronic device for wirelessly transmitting power may include a power transmission circuit, memory, a pulse generator, a foreign object detection circuit configured to detect a foreign object located in a path in which power is wirelessly transmitted through the power transmission circuit, and a control circuit. The control circuit may be configured to wirelessly transmit power to a second electronic device, based on an alternating current (AC) input voltage applied to the power transmission circuit, generate a trigger signal synchronized with a first time corresponding to a specified voltage of the input voltage through the pulse generator, store an output value of the foreign object detection circuit in the memory based on the trigger signal, the output value being identified at the first time, continuously obtain the output value stored in the memory from the memory during a specified time until before the trigger signal of a next period is received at the memory from the pulse generator, and detect the foreign object based on the output value obtained during the specified time.
