Abstract: A method of transmitting power of a wireless power transmitter, including a receiving phase of receiving a signal including an FOD status packet from a wireless power receiver; a first determination phase of determining whether a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter based on the FOD status packet; a power control phase of controlling power transmission in a first power transfer mode upon determining that the foreign object is present in the charging area in the first determination phase, or controlling power transmission in a second power transfer mode upon determining that the foreign object is not present in the charging area in the first determination phase; and a second determination phase of determining whether the foreign object is present in the charging area based on information other than information included in the FOD status packet, while controlling power transmission in one of the first power transfer mode and the second power transfer mode by the power control phase.

Abstract: A wireless power receiver for receiving power from a wireless power transmitter, including a receiving part configured to receive wireless power from the wireless power transmitter; and a main controller in which a foreign object detection status packet including at least one of a reference quality factor and a reference peak frequency is stored, wherein the main controller transmits the foreign object detection status packet to the wireless power transmitter; wherein the main controller receives a NAK response from the wireless power transmitter indicating that the foreign object is present, or receives an ACK response from the wireless power transmitter indicating that the foreign object is not present; and wherein the receiving part receives a first power from the wireless power transmitter according to the received NAK response, or receives a second power greater than the first power from the wireless power transmitter according to the received ACK response.

Abstract: A method of controlling a wireless power transmitter can include receiving, during a first determination phase, a foreign object detection status packet; before entering a first power transfer mode for transmitting first power and before entering a second power transfer mode for transmitting second power, determining whether a foreign object is present based on the foreign object detection status packet to generate a determination result; in response to determining that the foreign object is present based on the determination result, transmitting the first power according to the first power transfer mode; in response to determining that the foreign object is not present based on the determination result, transmitting the second power according to the second power transfer mode; and determining, during a second determination phase, whether the foreign object is present while transmitting the first power in the first power transfer mode.

Abstract: A wireless power transmitter for transmitting power to a wireless power receiver, including a controller configured to determine whether a foreign object is present; and a transmission part configured to transmit wireless power according to whether the foreign object is present, wherein the controller receives a foreign object detection status packet including at least one of a reference quality factor and a reference peak frequency from the wireless power receiver, and detects whether the foreign object is present based on the foreign object detection status packet, wherein the controller transmits a NAK response indicating that the foreign object is present or an ACK response indicating that the foreign object is not present to the wireless power receiver, and wherein the transmission part transmits a first power to the wireless power receiver according to the transmitted NAK response or transmits a second power greater than the first power to the wireless power receiver according to the transmitted ACK response.

Abstract: A wireless power receiver including a transmitter configured to transmit to a wireless power transmitter, a foreign object detection status packet including a mode bit field indicating whether a foreign object detection status packet includes a reference peak frequency of the wireless power receiver, in which the reference peak frequency is pre-assigned to the wireless power receiver; and a receiver configured to receive from the wireless power transmitter, a response indicating the foreign object is present or not present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter, wherein the response is determined based on a comparison of a measured peak frequency of a power signal transmitted by the wireless power transmitter and an adaptable threshold frequency adapted based on the reference peak frequency included in the foreign object detection status packet from the wireless power receiver.

Abstract: A method for detecting a foreign object disposed in a charging area of a wireless power transmitter can include transmitting, by the wireless power transmitter, a power signal having a predetermined strength; measuring, via a controller, a peak frequency of the power signal; receiving, from a wireless power receiver, information about a reference peak frequency of the wireless power receiver; determining, via the controller, a threshold frequency based on the reference peak frequency; and determining, via the controller, whether the foreign object is present in the charging area based on a comparison of the measured peak frequency of the power signal with the determined threshold frequency.
