    摘要: An antenna assembly includes at least two active or main radiating omni-directional antenna elements arranged with at least one beam control or passive antenna element used as a reflector. The beam control antenna element(s) may have multiple reactance elements that can electrically terminate it to adjust the input or output beam pattern(s) produced by the combination of the active antenna elements and the beam control antenna element(s). More specifically, the beam control antenna element(s) may be coupled to different terminating reactances to change beam characteristics, such as the directivity and angular beamwidth. Processing may be employed to select which terminating reactance to use. Consequently, the radiator pattern of the antenna can be more easily directed towards a specific target receiver/transmitter, reduce signal-to-noise interference levels, and/or increase gain by using Radio Frequency (RF), Intermediate Frequency (IF), or baseband processing. A Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) processing technique may be employed to operate the antenna assembly with simultaneous beam patterns.

    摘要: A communications device for separating source signals provided by M signal sources includes an antenna array comprising N antenna elements for receiving at least N different summations of the M source signals. A respective in-phase and quadrature module is connected downstream to each antenna element for separating each one of the N different summations of the M source signals received thereby into an in-phase and quadrature component set. A blind signal separation processor forms a mixing matrix comprising at least 2N different summations of the M source signals, with each in-phase and quadrature component set providing 2 inputs into the mixing matrix. The mixing matrix has a rank equal up to 2N. The desired source signals are separated from the mixing matrix by the blind signal separation processor.

    摘要: An antenna includes a ground plane and an active antenna element adjacent the ground plane. Passive antenna elements are adjacent the ground plane, and are spaced apart from the active antenna element. First parasitic gratings are adjacent the ground plane and are spaced apart from the active antenna element. Each first parasitic grating is between two adjacent passive antenna elements. A controller selectably controls the passive antenna elements for operating in a reflective mode or a directive mode. The controller includes for each respective passive antenna element at least one impedance element connected to the ground plane, and a switch adjacent the ground plane for connecting the at least one impedance element to the passive antenna element so that the passive antenna element operates in the reflective or directive mode.

    摘要: A directional antenna is pointed based on a ranking process. The ranking process of choice uses both Es/No and Pilot Power parameters as measured from a pilot signal for best overall system performance in the forward and reverse links. Using this pointing and ranking process enables adaptive pointing of the directional antenna in interference and multi-path driven environments. The pointing and ranking process may be used to select the nullbestnull pointing angle for communicating with a given base station or for selecting the given base station. The process may include fine tuning techniques for use in different environments. The fine tuning may include the use of weights related to the operating environment or directivity of the directional antenna.
