The resistance part is produced from at least two separately produced plate-shaped parts which are desirably provided with a central slit enabling them to be fitted together. The attenuation or termination element can be economically produced and has high heat dissipation.
Abstract:
A terminated coaxial connector having a mating end for mating with a coaxial jack, the connector including an axially aligned resistor mounted within a conductive outer shell. The resistor electrically links the outer shell with a center conductor which is connected to a first end of the resistor through a conductive rear plug which is connected to a second end of the resistor. The center conductor and the rear plug hold the resistor axially aligned within the outer shell. Further, a method of assembling a terminated coaxial connector having a mating end for mating with a coaxial jack so that a resistor within the connector is held axially aligned within an outer shell by a rear plug. The resistor is physically and electrically linked to the center conductor and the outer shell through the conductive rear plug and provides a level of impedance within the coaxial connector.
Abstract:
An RF termination load includes a base of an electrically and thermally conductive material having opposed surfaces. A recess is in one of the surfaces of the base and a groove in the one surface extends from the recess to an edge of the base. A resistor is seated in the recess in the base. The resistor includes a substrate of an electrically insulating material having opposed surfaces and a resistance film on one of the surface of the substrate. A first contact of a resistance film is on the one surface of the substrate at one end of the resistor and a second contact of an electrically conductive material is on the one surface of the substrate at the other end of the resistor. The second contact extends over an edge of the substrate and over the other surface of the substrate. The resistor is mounted in the recess with the second contact being seated on and contacting the base. An RF cable has an end in the groove in the base. The cable has an inner conductor which is electrically connected to the first contact of the resistor and an outer shielding conductor which is electrically connected to the base. A cover extends over the base and the resistor and is secured to the base. The cover and base having aligned mounting holes therethrough.
Abstract:
A connector for use in connecting coaxial cables having a center conductor surrounded by an insulator and a shield is provided with a self-terminating mechanism. The self-terminating mechanism includes a terminating element having an impedance equal to the characteristic impedance of the coaxial cable. The terminating element is arranged within the insulator in such a way that when the connector is uncoupled the terminating element connects the center conductor to the shield, and when the connector is coupled the terminating element is forced off connection with the center conductor.
Abstract:
A microwave termination for dissipating substantially all of the energy transmitted through a coaxial line structure which has a body adapted to be connected to the outer conductor of the coaxial line, a center conductor adapted to be connected to the inner conductor of the coaxial line, a dielectric member disposed between the center conductor and the body for maintaining the center conductor coaxially disposed relative to the body, and a cylindrically shaped resistor radially disposed within the body so as to be in electrical contact with the body at its opposite ends and with the center conductor at a central portion thereof. The resistor has a resistive coating which absorbs the energy received by the termination from the coaxial line.
Abstract:
A coaxial connector which is especially suitable for use in CATV systems in which the connector contains an integral terminating resistor. The connector includes a hollow body surrounding an insulator assembly within which is disposed a spring contact assembly. The spring contact assembly includes two spring contact fingers normally biased to a first position, but which are adapted to be displaced to a second position upon the insertion of a coaxial cable center conductor therebetween. The terminating resistor has one of its leads connected to the connector body. The other lead of the terminating resistor makes direct electrical and mechanical contact to one of the spring contact fingers when the fingers are in the first position but the terminating resistor is mechanically and electrically disconnected therefrom when the spring contact fingers are displaced to the second position.
