    摘要: A direct viewing charge image storage tube is described including a transmission type storage target having an extremely low differential cutoff of about 0.1 to 0.2 volt and faster writing speed of about 100 to 500 centimeters per microsecond. This is achieved by employing a thick storage dielectric on the mesh electrode of the target, providing a low electrical field adjacent the rear of the target and applying a positive preparation pulse to the target electrode during bombardment by the low velocity flood electrons until the potential of such dielectric is decreased to the cutoff voltage. The side portions of the dielectric surrounding each of the mesh openings continues to charge negatively after the front surface portion of the dielectric reaches the flood gun cathode potential so that the potential of each front surface portion decreases below such cathode potential until it reaches the cutoff voltage for the adjacent mesh opening before termination of the preparation pulse. The thick storage dielectric layer may be made of low density secondary emissive, such as magnesium oxide having a density of less than about 5 percent of its bulk density. While the storage tube can contain only one transmission storage target and phosphor viewing screen, it may also employ a second transmission storage target of thinner dielectric of higher density between the first target and such phosphor screen so that a charge image formed on the first target may be transferred to such second target for storage viewing and over a longer time.

    摘要: Apparatus comprising in combination a first electron generator including focusing and scanning means for deflecting a primary electron beam to produce a bombarded scan pattern on a nonconductive medium, and control means including a second electron generator for generating a second electron beam of low energy electrons directed along an electron axis that is nonintersecting with the medium. The control means also including deflecting means to afford electron flooding of the medium by the low energy electrons and thereby cause secondary emission of electron from the medium, collecting means for collecting the secondary emission electrons to afford control of the accumulated charge on the medium, and light shield and trapping means to prevent illumination of the medium by the second electron generator. In the first embodiment, the medium is photon emissive and the apparatus includes a photomultiplier. In the second embodiment, the medium is sensitive to the bombarding electrons for producing a pattern thereon.

    摘要: A flood gun control grid is placed between an electron gun and a backing electrode, and covers a given portion of the area of the backing electrode. This control grid is connected to control potentials sufficient to cutoff flood gun electrons. Write-gun electrons, having sufficiently high velocity, will not be cutoff by the flood control grid and will penetrate the grid and backing electrode to write directly on the portion of the viewing screen of the tube which is blocked by the flood-control grid.
