    摘要: A cathode ray tube comprising a channel plate electron multiplier structure disposed between a source of electrons and an output device such as a cathodeoluminescent screen. The electron multiplier comprises a stack of n apertured dynodes which are separated from each other and are arranged in cascade with the apertures in adjacent dynodes aligned to form channels. In order to improve the resolution of the electron multiplier while enabling the dynodes to be aceptably rigid the axial profile of the apertures in at least the second to the (n-1)th dynodes is such that it comprises a re-entrant portion within the thickness of the dynode with the axially spaced ends of the re-entrant portion being spaced from the respective opposite surfaces of the dynode by a convergent or cylindrical input portion and a divergent or cylindrical output portion. The axial length of the re-entrant portion corresponds substantially to the cross-section of the input (or output) portion at a point where it communicates with the re-entrant portion.

    摘要: A plurality of control plates are sandwiched between a cathode and a target to control the flow of charged particles such as electrons and ions between the cathode and the target. Each control plate has a plurality of apertures formed therein which are effectively aligned with corresponding apertures on the other control plates. At least one input buffer plate and one output buffer plate are sandwiched between the control plates and the cathode and target respectively. The input buffer plate and the output buffer plate have a plurality of apertures formed therein aligned with corresponding apertures in the control plates. The aligned apertures form beam channels. The control plates have conductive electrodes thereon arranged at predetermined coded finger patterns. D.C. voltages are applied to the buffer plates to provide electron optic lensing and voltages are selectively applied to the control plate electrodes by switching circuitry to selectively open and close beam channels. The separation of the buffer plates from the control plates is by anomalously thick spacer plates to isolate the control plates from the high voltages associated with the buffer plates. By selective switching control of the control plates a beam, or a plurality of beams, can be directed to a selected portion or portions of the target at a time.

    摘要: A target for use in an electronic tube is provided on a conductive layer of a support member and it comprises solid dielectric domains adhered to the conductive layer and spaced from one another. The peripheries of the dielectric domains have a random configuration so that the spacing therebetween defines random cracks exposing areas of the conductive layer. The target can also be a metallic mesh having openings of non-regular cell size if the metallic mesh is provided with dielectric thereon which has random cracks therein which exposes areas of the metal.

    摘要: A field-effect storage cathode ray tube is provided with a gasdischarge panel arrangement for display output. A transparent conductive mesh is mounted within the panel adjacent the transparent front plate thereof, and an array of conductive pins extend through the panel backplate from within the panel to the other surface of the backplate. A conductive mesh pattern is formed upon the outer surface of the panel backplate in a manner so that each of the respective mesh openings surround a respective pin. A layer of semiconductor material is deposited over the mesh and the backplate exposed by the mesh openings, and a layer of insulation is deposited upon the layer of semiconductor. A charge pattern written on the layer of insulation acts to increase local conductivity in the semiconductor, causing increased current flow between local pins and adjacent mesh. Current flow through the pins determines a pattern of light emission corresponding to the charge pattern.

    摘要: Sequentially appearing video signals as may be generated by means of a single scanning beam are processed for display in a plurality of simultaneously appearing beams of a charged particle beam scanner. Video signals corresponding to each of the scanning beams are successively fed to corresponding hold circuits, the number of such hold circuits corresponding to the number of scanning beams. The scanner has a plurality of beam channels defined between an area charged particle source and target with control plate means simultaneously controlling the scanning of each of the beams in these channels. A modulator control plate also is included for simultaneously controlling the intensity of each of the beams. Video signals are simultaneously fed from the hold circuits to corresponding beam control electrodes of the modulator control plate to provide simultaneous modulation of all of the beams. In this manner successive groups of consecutively arriving video signals, are memorized in hold circuits and then simultaneously used to modulate corresponding beams which are controlled to scan the target.
