    摘要: A thermal-magnetic trip unit is provided for a circuit breaker. The thermal-magnetic trip unit includes a heater and a translational magnetic system coupled to the heater. The heater includes a first portion, a second portion, and a third disposed between the first portion and the second portion. The first portion has a first surface disposed in a first plane, and the second portion has a second surface disposed in a second plane that is substantially parallel to the first plane. The first surface is separated by a first predetermined distance from the second surface. The third portion has a third surface disposed in a third plane that is substantially perpendicular to the first plane. The third surface has a first predetermined length and is separated by a second predetermined distance from the second surface. Numerous other aspects are provided.

    摘要: A thermally actuated switch which embodies an active unit which includes a heat responsive element which is part of an enclosure enclosing electrical resistance elements for heating. Heat is applied internally to the enclosure and cooling is by way of dissipation of heat externally from the enclosure. The thermally responsive element is in the form of a flat plate which expands lengthwise. The plate engages the shorter arm of a pivoted bell crank lever, which along with the leaf spring engages the actuating member to be actuated.

    摘要: Disclosed are temperature responsive switches wherein a permanent magnet cooperates with a piece of thermoferrite (TF) to close or open contacts depending on whether the temperature of the TF is below or above its Curie point and hence is or is not attracted by the magnet. A positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor is connected electrically in series with the TF and is in intimate heat conducting relationship with it. The TF and PTC resistor are heated by passing current through them and the PTC resistor limits the ultimate temperature attained by greatly increasing its resistance as a predetermined upper limit temperature is attained.

The various embodiments include different arrangements of the temperature responsive electrical regulating component and the switch. Certain of the embodiments include a second series connected switch of similar construction. The conductive polymer or ceramic material can be of a variety of types for performing different electrical regulating functions within the circuit.
