    Abstract: A thermally-sensitive cantilever sensor switch with a bimorph structure based on phononic cantilever structure. Phononic structure increases switch sensitivity to incident absorbed radiation. In embodiments the zero power switch is sensitive to ambient temperature and/or incident absorbed radiation. In embodiments, multiple switches are configured within a spectrometer to provide a means of monitoring toxic components within a media of interest such as smokestake effluents and hot emitters. The switch may be structured with sensitivity to incident radiation within wavelength bands ranging from ultraviolet (UV) to MHz.

    Abstract: A heat-reactive switch includes an airtight container with a housing and a lid plate, two conductive terminal pins fixed in through-holes in the lid plate, a fixed contact point fixed on one of the conductive terminal pins, a heater connected to the other conductive terminal pin and to the lid plate, a heat-reactive plate connected to the housing internal surface, the bending direction becoming inverted at a predetermined temperature, and a mobile contact point provided at the end of the heat-reactive plate. A heating element has a plurality of serpentine portions made from a metal plate in ribbon form, disposed between the lid plate and the heat-reactive plate so as to be parallel thereto. At least two of the serpentine portions are disposed to face each other while sandwiching the conductive terminal pin. Each portion follows the inner peripheral surface of the housing and have planar portions facing each other.

    Abstract: A thermal protection circuit has two electrical connection terminals for a device to be protected, and a temperature-dependent switch. The switch is provided with a temperature-dependent switching mechanism, two stationary contacts which are connected to the connection terminals, and a current transfer element, which is arranged on the switching mechanism. The current transfer element is moved by the switching mechanism and comprises two counter contacts, which are electrically connected to one another and in temperature-dependent bearing contact with the two stationary contacts. The thermal protection circuit is provided with a controllable semiconductor valve for AC voltage having two current terminals and a control input. Each of the two current terminals is connected to one of the connection terminals, and the control input is electrically connected to the counter contacts at the current transfer element via the switching mechanism at least when the temperature-dependent switch is closed.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a means in which contact between contacts in a “double-break (or double-make) contact structure” occurs in two places in the same state as much as possible. A contact structure includes two fixed members (110,112) each of which has a fixed contact (116,118) and a movable member (102) containing a movable contact (106) which contacts or separates from the fixed contact of each of the fixed members.     Abstract: Embodiments relate to an external operation thermal protector incorporating a polymer PTC element that is operable in a safe state in which a hot spot does not occur even under volume expansion due to thermal expansion at the time of heat generation. A terminal plate of a resistance element module having a polymer PTC element is caulked above a column and fixed to a body casing together with the fixed end of a movable plate interlocked with a bimetal and a second terminal. Another terminal plate of the resistance element module is arranged with a gap, for absorbing the volume expansion caused when the polymer PTC element generates heat, with respect to the inner wall of the body casing. The current for an external load between a first terminal and the second terminal is interrupted by externally energizing the second terminal and a third terminal.

    Abstract: The rear end of a movable plate is fixed to one end of a resin base and a pair of terminals for connection with an external circuit is fixed to the other end thereof. Fixed contacts are formed on the fixed portions of the terminals, and the movable contact of the movable plate is disposed opposed to the fixed contacts. A bimetal element engaged with the center of the movable plate is set to project upward at normal temperature, thus bringing the movable contact into pressure contact with the fixed contacts with prescribed contact pressure. The bimetal element consists of an inversion area which has no portion overlapping the conduction path area of load current, in a disposition space inside a housing, of the thermal protector, it is not affected by Joule's heat from the conduction path.
