Abstract:
An electronic device able to read an optical disc includes a base, a cover, a driving unit for rotating and supporting the optical disc, and a shutdown device. The shutdown device is arranged between the base and the cover, and includes a raster sensor and an engaging component. The engaging component is secured to the cover and pivots about the base. When the cover is opened, the engaging component moves away from the raster sensor, the raster sensor emits a first control signal in response, which controls the driving unit to stop rotating.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, an optical disc is the following the distance between a light incidence plane and the first recording layer is a minimum of 550 μm. The distance between the first and the third recording layer is a maximum of 72 μm. The distance between the second and the third recording layer is a minimum of 15 μm. The distance between the first and the second recording layer is about 31 to 40 μm. The reflectivities of the first and the second recording layer with respect to the first laser beam range from 18 to 27%, and the ratio therebetween is about 1.1 or less. The reflectivity of the third recording layer is below about 6%. The areal recording density of the third recording layer is three times or more as high as that of the first recording layer and the second recording layer.
Abstract:
Described is an image data reproduction apparatus including a reproduction section for reproducing image data from a recording medium. A display section shows the image data. An operation section gives a command for switching the display from a one frame image data display to a list image display. A control section executes list image display on the display section in response to the detection of an operation by the operation section when one piece of image data generated from the recording medium is displayed on the display section. The control section also moves a selection display on the list image display in response to the detection of an operation of the operation section.A display control method is also described which includes the steps of: detecting an operation of the operation section; executing list image display by a display section; and moving the selection display on the list image display.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for interfacing with playback of media by a media player are provided. By combining the functionality of fast forward and skip forward into a single button control, the invention reduces the numbers of control buttons that need be included on a device, reducing device costs and consumer “button overload.” In one embodiment, by pressing (and releasing) a forward button, media being rendered by a media player skips to a predetermined location in the media. By pressing and holding (and then releasing) the forward button, the media being rendered is fast forwarded according to algorithms for fast forwarding. A backward button covers skipping backward and fast reversing in a similar fashion. A device including a play/pause button and the described forward and backward buttons advantageously reduces the number of buttons required by two buttons.
Abstract:
A method is provided for shifting a rotational speed of a disc. The method includes steps of: detecting a state of a button to determine whether the button is pressed down; counting activating duration if the button is pressed down; determining whether the activating duration is up to a predetermined time; and switching the rotational speed of the disc from a first speed level to a second speed level, if the activating duration is up to a predetermined time. A related disc drive using the method to shift the rotational speed of the disc is also provided.
Abstract:
An optical drive may include drive electronics and wake circuitry. The drive electronics may be arranged to operate the optical drive when in a powered mode. The wake circuitry may be arranged to generate a wake signal when the drive electronics are in an unpowered mode and when a button is pushed on the optical drive or optical media is inserted into the drive. An interface to the optical drive may include a line to carry the wake signal from the wake circuitry. A host may house the optical drive and communicate with optical drive via the interface.
Abstract:
A player includes an actuating mechanism, and a touch-control plate; the actuating mechanism is joined to a turntable at an output shaft; the output shaft holds a central shaft therein, which has a conductive inner part, and an insulating outer part around the inner part, and which is connected to inside of the player; the central shaft is connected to a center of a round disk on the turntable; the round disk can be manually rotated to produce scratch sound effects; the touch-control plate is conductive, and joined to the central shaft such that a touch signal will be transferred to the player inside when the plate is touched; when the output shaft makes the turntable rotate, and the touch-control plate is touched to produce a touch signal, the player will, according to the touch signal, send out a particular one of various scratch sound effects stored in the player.
Abstract:
When a disk unloading operation is made by mistake or when recording is suddenly required after the unloading operation in a conventional disk recording/playback apparatus which has no cancel function of the disk unloading operation, an important recording chance is often missed. This invention allows the user to cancel the disk unloading operation, and can quickly restore the state before the disk unloading operation,. thus solving the above problem.
Abstract:
A system, method, and article of manufacture is provided for updating content stored on a portable storage medium. Some embodiments provide systems that include means for receiving a request from a content player from over a communication network requesting updated content for use with a portable storage medium being accessed by the content player, wherein the request comprises information from the content player, means for determining whether updated content associated with the portable storage medium is available, and means for initiating a communication over the communication network of updated content associated with the portable storage medium to the content player in response to determining that updated content is available.
Abstract:
An optical disc drive and the method for adjusting the working speed are disclosed. In the present method, the user decides the highest working speed in advance. Then, in response to an initiation event, the optical disc drive chooses one of the highest working speed and the pre-determined standard working speed as the actual working speed. The actual working speed depends on the determination whether the current working speed is higher than the standard working speed. If the determination is “true”, the optical disc drive uses the standard working speed as the actual working speed. Otherwise, the optical disc drive uses the highest working speed as the actual working speed. Accordingly, for the present optical disc drive, it is easy to adjust the speed and thus the probability of disc shatter and noise level are reduced.
