Anode electrodes of the display are mounted on the substrate and are connected to a second portion of the electrical conductors by metal connectors located within the display envelope. A driving circuit for a gas-discharge display device includes a pair of switching members and the secondary windings of a transformer wired in series with one of the switching members. The switching members in response to receiving out-of-phase control signals alternately apply a low voltage pulse to the display device. The secondary windings of the transformer output continuously a high voltage pulse in phase with one of the switching members. Upon the generation of appropriate control signals enabling the operation of the switching members, a voltage of sufficient magnitude is applied to selected cell segments in the display device to fire the cells. The transformer together with the low voltage pulses are driven by a high frequency clock to provide a high intensity display operation.

The circuit includes a separate driver circuit for each cathode and for each anode and a circuit for biasing the ''''OFF'''' cathodes, the ''''OFF'''' anodes, and the auxiliary screen electrode a predetermined difference in potential from the anode supply voltage and independent of the amount of current conducted by the cathodes or by the auxiliary electrode itself.
