Abstract: An adaptive process control system and corresponding method for independent steering of plant control systems is provided, wherein a plant associated with the plant control system includes a plurality of interlocked elements of one or more operational unit of the plant. The operation of an operational unit is controlled by the plant control system by means of the elements interlocked to the plant control system, wherein the adaptive, independent process control system is accessible by a plant process engine including a plant controller unit connected via the supervisory control and data acquisition unit with at least one programmable logic controller of the plant control system. The operation of the plant and the operational units is controlled by means of the programmable logic controller and the plurality of interlocked elements.

Via a machine learning method, a sub-optimal controller is derived that stabilizes the nonlinear dynamic control system at an equilibrium point. Abstract: The programmable transition state machine of this invention is designed to allow implementation of hardware capable of increasing the performance of critical encoding and decoding tasks in a microprocessor environment where a required encoding or decoding or machines is not known in advance. Abstract: A programmable controller for sensing the status of input devices and controlling the state of operating devices in accordance with a stored ladder logic control program includes a state machine instruction. A memory is provided for storing data regarding each state of an apparatus being controlled. This data defines the status of apparatus operating devices for each state, and the legitimate transitions from that state to other selected states, along with a Boolean logic expression of selected input conditions which determines when a state transition should occur. A processor responds to the state machine instruction by examining the truth of the Boolean logic expressions for the present state of the apparatus to detect if a state transition should occur. Upon such a detection controller advances to the state associated with the detected true expression. State transitions also can be defined as occurring upon a specified change in the status of a single input. Other mechanisms are provided to detect illegitimate states of the apparatus and take appropriate action.

Abstract: A state machine configurator for creating controller-executable state machines is provided. The state machine configurator provides a development environment that allows a user to define a customized state machine for control of a particular industrial process.
