Abstract:
A toner for developing an electrostatic image is formed of toner particles; wherein each toner particle includes (i) 100 wt. parts of a binder resin having a glass transition point (Tg) of 50-70.degree. C., (ii) 0.2-20 wt. parts of solid wax, and (iii) colorant particles or magnetic powder carrying a liquid lubricant, so that the toner particle retains at its surface the liquid lubricant gradually released from the particles (iii). The toner may be further blended with an organically treated inorganic fine powder to provide a developer. The toner or developer retains good lubricity and releasability so that it is suitable to be used in an image forming method including means contacting a latent image-bearing means, such as a contact charging means, a contact transfer means or a contact cleaning means.

Abstract:
A process for the preparation of toner compositions comprising:(i) preparing an emulsion latex comprised of sodio sulfonated polyester resin particles of from about 5 to about 500 nanometers in size diameter by heating said resin in water at a temperature of from about 65.degree. C. to about 90.degree. C.(ii) preparing a pigment dispersion in a water by dispersing in water from about 10 to about 25 weight percent of sodio sulfonated polyester and from about 1 to about 5 weight percent of pigment;(iii) adding the pigment dispersion to a latex mixture comprised of sulfonated polyester resin particles in water with shearing, followed by the addition of an alkali halide in water until aggregation results as indicated by an increase in the latex viscosity of from about 2 centipoise to about 100 centipoise;(iv) heating the resulting mixture at a temperature of from about 45.degree. C. to about 80.degree. C. thereby causing further aggregation and enabling coalescence, resulting in toner particles of from about 4 to about 9 microns in volume average diameter and with a geometric distribution of less than about 1.3; and optionally(v) cooling the product mixture to about 25.degree. C. and followed by washing and drying.

Abstract:
A toner including a mother toner comprising a binder resin and a calixarene having a halogen group, and a charge controlling agent having a halogen group that is present on a surface of the mother toner. The ratio of halogen ion to carbon ion on a surface of the toner is from 0.01 to 0.5, when determined by TOF-SIMS. The toner can be prepared by preparing a first liquid by dissolving or dispersing toner components including a calixarene having a halogen group and a binder resin and/or a precursor of the binder resin in an organic solvent; preparing a second liquid by emulsifying or dispersing the first liquid in an aqueous medium; removing the organic solvent from the second liquid; preparing a third liquid by washing the second liquid from which the organic solvent is removed; and adding a charge controlling agent having a halogen group to the third liquid.
