Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: an image former that forms a toner image; an image carrier that carries the toner image formed by the image former; a transferer that transfers the toner image on a surface of the image carrier to a recording medium that passes through a transfer position of the image carrier by using a transfer electric field that is formed by applying a transfer bias; a measurer that measures a voltage in the transferer; and at least one processor configured to: calculate a voltage division ratio γ=Vp/Vm that is a ratio of a recording-medium divided voltage Vp when the recording medium passes in the transferer to a member divided voltage Vm that is applied to a member before the recording medium passes in the transferer; and cause the image former to change an amount of toner in a band-shaped toner image to be formed on a region of the image carrier that does not face the recording medium or a supply frequency of the band-shaped toner image in accordance with the voltage division ratio γ or a length of the recording medium in a transport direction of the recording medium.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming target looped around plural rotators including a driving roller, having at least one straight portion that is shaped straight when viewed in an axial direction of the driving roller, and transported by the driving roller and the rotators, and three or more image formers arranged along the straight portion and configured to form images on the image forming target. An adjacency distance along the straight portion between the image formers adjacent to each other on the straight portion is an integral multiple of an outer peripheral length of the driving roller. The adjacency distance at a downstream end is shorter than the adjacency distance at an upstream end, and one of the adjacency distances is equal to or shorter than the adjacency distance that is relatively on an upstream side.

Abstract: An exposure device irradiates a photoconductor with light on the basis of an exposure signal and thereby forms an electrostatic latent image. A toner amount calculating unit (a) determines a distribution pattern of the electrostatic latent image on the basis of the exposure signal, (b) determines an electric field variation level of a target pixel, (c) determines an electric field intensity of the target pixel on the basis of a value of the target pixel in the distribution pattern and the electric field variation level, and (d) determines a toner consumption amount corresponding to the electric field intensity. Further, using spatial filters independently of each other in a primary scanning direction and in a secondary scanning direction, the toner amount calculating unit determines the electric field variation level on the basis of (a) the distribution pattern or (b) the exposure signal.
