Abstract: A self-powered sensing system is provided for the monitoring of quasi-static structural responses. The sensing system is comprised of: an energy concentrator having a member configured to detect a variation of a physical stimuli and change shape in response to the variation of the physical stimuli, where the variation typically occurs at a frequency less than one Hertz; a transducer coupled the member of the energy concentrator and generates a voltage in response to the change in shape of the member; and an event logging circuit configured to receive the voltage from the transducer and log the voltage in a non-volatile memory. Physical stimuli may include temperature, pressure or an applied force.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a hybrid mechanical and electrical transformer temperature monitor. The mechanical sensing mechanism drives mechanical switches, a local display and a sensing input to the electrical side of the monitor. The electrical portion of the temperature monitor has the ability to calculate winding temperature (with an additional current sensor), data log, actuate electrical switches and has a local display for winding temperature.

Abstract: For determining the highest oil temperature in a transformer, a temperature-sensitive transducer in the form of a hollow closed body is arranged adjacent the point in the upper part of the winding where the oil temperature is assumed to be highest and is connected by a conducting tube to a measuring device located outside the transformer. The transducer and the connecting tube are filled with a liquid having a higher coefficient of expansion than the material of the transducer and a boiling point which is higher than the highest permissible oil temperature. The tube has a volume which is small in relation to the volume of the transducer.
