The end unit includes an image sensor that is positioned against a target that has a bar code. The image sensor defines a field of view of a scene that includes the target, and the bar code stores encoded information that defines a target coverage zone. The system selectively operates in a first mode and a second mode according to input from the control subsystem. In the first mode the end unit scans the bar code to extract the target coverage zone. In the second mode the image sensor captures a series of images of the target coverage zone, and the processing subsystem analyzes regions of the captured series of images to determine a strike, by a projectile of the firearm, on the target.

An immersive virtual reality system for larger, theater-sized audiences is disclosed. The system enables multiple users to collaborate or work together as a group, or enable groups to compete. Users interact with the virtual reality system through the manipulation of handheld interactive devices. Each device has multiple lights forming a pattern. Tracking sensors monitor the handheld devices, and the system interprets the motions of the users and dynamically changes the virtual reality environment based on the motions of the users. The system may assign unique roles for users within a group.

The present invention comprises a transmitter unit having at least one infrared (IR) transmitter, a target screen, a plurality of photodiode sensors disposed in a spaced apart relationship about the target screen, and receiver circuitry connecting the photodiode sensors together. The transmitter unit continuously emits an IR signal, which is detected by the photodiode sensors. The receiver circuitry then triangulate the position of the transmitter unit by calculating the differential distances between each of the photodiode sensors and the transmitter unit. The receiver circuitry is able to dynamically update the position of the transmitter unit because the transmitter unit continuously emits an IR signal. The transmitter unit is able to simulate a “shot” in a number of different ways, including updating the packet update rate or altering the data packet preamble. No return signal is necessary for the transmitter unit to confirm the “shot.”

An infantry training simulation system comprising at least one firing lane, with at least one display arranged substantially near the end of the firing lane. A trainee experiencing the simulation can carry at least one physical or virtual weapon, which is typically similar to a traditional infantry weapon. To facilitate navigation and other interaction with the simulation, the weapon is preferably outfitted with at least one controller. At least one computer is communicatively coupled to the display and the weapon. The computer can monitor input from the at least one controller, and modifies the training simulation displayed on the display based on the input.

The system includes a database including a plurality of training scenarios, each training scenario including a sequence of stimuli, the sequence of stimuli including targets for the trainee to engage; a display for the presentation of the sequence of stimuli; and a data processor generating the presentation of the sequence of stimuli on the display, providing an operator interface, and providing performance reporting. The sequence of stimuli can include a range of difficulty of engagement, for example, an increasing period, a plateau period, and a final period.
