    Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for the uniform drying of boards, such as gypsum wallboards. The apparatus includes a dryer through which a series of boards are conveyed in a side-by-side relationship. While in the dryer, heated air is delivered over the boards via a series of separate air channels. A bypass duct delivers a portion of or a totality of unreheated air to the outermost channels where the cooler air displaces a volume of the warmer air. As a result, the air in the outermost channels is cooler than the air in the interior channels. Air from the outermost channels is then directed over the exposed longitudinal edges of the boards.

    Abstract: A device and a method are provided for the removal of liquid coolant or lubricant edge beads from the side marginal edges of a moving web, such as metal sheet or strip. The device consists of two or more pairs of manifolds, wherein the individual manifolds of each pair are positioned above and below the main surfaces of the moving web and the manifolds also extend beyond the side edges of the web. The manifolds are arranged at an angle to the side marginal edges of the web and compressed gas is introduced to the manifolds. The introduction of the compressed gas, such as air, through the manifolds provides vertical curtains of compressed gas parts of which impinge on the surfaces of the web and thus create turbulence at the side marginal edge portions where the liquid edge bead is located. Due to the turbulence created at the side marginal edge areas of the moving web effective removal of the liquid edge bead can be accomplished.

    Abstract: Tenter driers are frequently used for drying textile webs whose edges have an increased weight per unit area or have been treated with glue. It is extremely difficult to dry the edges to the same degree of residual humidity as the remainder of the web. In the inlet region, the blower box has been replaced by blower pipes extending parallel to the chain rails. The pipes are connected to the recirculated air system of the drier and provided with nozzle apertures directed towards the web edges. Since only a low drying capacity is available, the drier either has to be extended or the throughput speed has to be decreased. With the drier according to the invention, a longitudinal section which starts at the inlet and extends over at least 20% of the total length is equipped with blower pipes (27, 28) aligned parallel to the chain rails (13, 14). Blower boxes (18, 19) are also mounted in this longitudinal section, both above and below the textile web (15). In order to feed drying medium to the blower pipes (27, 28), an additional blower (32) which is connected to a blower box (18) in the inlet region (1) is provided.
