Abstract: A savonius wind turbine including a rotational shaft and a compound blade operatively coupled to the rotational shaft is provided. The compound blade includes a primary blade portion and a secondary blade portion. The primary blade portion extends between a first end and a second end and defines a primary concave surface therebetween. The secondary blade portion is coupled to the primary blade portion between the first end and the second end. The secondary blade portion defines a secondary concave surface configured to generate a torque about the rotational shaft.

Abstract: This invention relates to a vortex station and method for producing a vortex similar to one of a group consisting of dust-devils and waterspouts. The apparatus comprises a ground platform forming a base for the vortex station, a plurality of vanes to direct an air flow into a vortex station and about the vortex station in a substantially swirling manner, at least one wind turbine disposed near the centre of said vortex station, in a path of a concentrated air flow, wherein the movement of the air in the vortex station is such that an atmospheric buoyancy vortex is created in the centre of the vortex station, a supply of a working fluid (e.g. water) to the vortex station at or near the centre of the vortex station such that the air is of a saturated condition or an at least partially saturated condition with the working fluid (e.g. water), the working fluid (e.g. water) supplied at a sufficient quantity or amount so as to assist with maintaining buoyancy and stability of a vortex created.

Abstract: The present device is a vertically oriented wind turbine blade having a rectangular simple curvilinear shaped blade, which includes a top edge, a bottom edge, an outer edge, an inner edge, an inner surface and an outer surface. The blade is formed using extrusion to approximate a uncompleted airfoil shape from the inner edge to the outer edge (relative to the turbine center or hub). The angle of attack, the solidity and the arms angle are designed to improve performance at low wind speeds.

Abstract: Provided are a rotary device for fluid power generation and a fluid power generation device that are capable of converting the kinetic energy of a fluid to an electric energy. By utilizing a longitudinal vortex as a driving force, a rotary body such as a cylinder as a high-strength and tough wing-shaped member can be rotated, and power can be efficiently generated in a wide range of flow rate without letting the longitudinal vortex disappear even if the flow rate changes in a wide range. This rotary device for power generation includes a rotary body 3; and a wake body 8 that is a distance away from the rotary body 3 toward the downstream side of a flow direction 10 of the fluid, and has at least one crossover section at which the wake body 8 intersects with the rotary body 3.

Abstract: A material (such as potassium hydroxide or ammonia) capable of reacting with ambient carbon dioxide to produce fertilizer is placed in the path of ambient air movement. Desirably the material is associated with a fabric which in turn is associated with a vane of a vertical axis wind turbine, the turbine performing useful work as well as supporting the material which produces a fertilizer. A misting system controlled by a controller may automatically apply a water mist to the material if the humidity is below a predetermined level. The fabric with produced nitrogen and/or potassium fertilizer may be placed directly into contact with soil, or shredded first, or burned to produce energy and an ash (and the ash applied to the soil). The wind turbine may have a convenient, versatile mounting system with three adjustable legs supporting a central component, and the spokes of the wind turbine may be slotted for easy assembly with vanes.

Abstract: A device and method of acquiring mechanical energy by using a wind power generator employing sails is described. A sail is mounted on a towing carriage that is used for the rotation of a propulsion wheel of the mechanical gear is added. The towing carriage is connected to a strand and the strand transfers the force originated by the sail to the propulsion wheel of the power plant. The sail has the ability of adjustment of its angle position to the direction of the wind, the total exploitation cycle of the wind power generator employing sails consists of the working part during which the sail is moving along the direction of wind.
