Abstract: Systems and methods for landing a tubing hanger in a wellhead and then orienting a tree (or spool, or flowline connection body) relative to the tubing hanger while landing the tree on the wellhead are provided. This alignment is accomplished without the use of either a tubing spool or a BOP stack with an orientation pin. The tubing hanger alignment devices may be used to orientate the tree as the tree is landed so that the couplings and stabs between the tree and the tubing hanger line up with each other just at the moment of landing.

Abstract: A method for operating an apparatus for installing a tubing hanger in a subsea wellhead or X-mas tree without hydraulic cables from the surface and without valves for controlling hydraulic functions. The method includes: providing an apparatus for installing the tubing hanger; preparing the apparatus for installation; actuating the tubing hanger's locking function via pressurized completion fluid that causes direct actuation of ring pistons that are arranged to operate the locking sleeve and the locking segments of the tubing hanger; verifying the tubing hanger is locked; and releasing the apparatus mechanically or hydraulically from the installed tubing hanger.

Abstract: An assembly includes two tubular elements, a primary and a secondary seal arranged between the two tubular elements, a seal cavity formed between the two tubular elements and the primary and the secondary seal, and a seal monitoring apparatus having a housing and a position sensor. The housing has a chamber enclosing a separator which divides the chamber into a first and a second sub-chamber. The first sub-chamber is fluidly connected to the seal cavity and is filled with a hydraulic fluid. The separator is movable in a first direction relative to the housing to increase a volume of the first sub-chamber and decrease a volume of the second sub-chamber, and in a second direction to decrease the volume of the first sub-chamber and increase the volume of the second sub-chamber. The position sensor generates an electrical signal which represents a position of the separator relative to the housing.

Abstract: A method for forming an offshore well comprises forming a well structure (1) which includes a lower well portion extending below a seabed and an upper well portion (2) extending upwardly between the seabed (18) and a terminating upper end (3) of the well structure, wherein the well structure comprises a plurality of concentrically arranged tubular strings (22) and at least one annulus (48) defined therebetween. The method includes steps for minimising the bending stiffness of the upper well portion. In one example minimising the bending stiffness of the upper well portion may comprise partially filling at least one annulus with cement (52) to a height which: is intermediate the seabed and the terminating upper end of the well structure. In another example minimising the bending stiffness of the upper well portion may comprise providing a cement disruptor within at least one annulus and locating cement within said at least one annulus to define a cement sheath, wherein the cement disruptor, for example sleeve (122), reduces resistance of at least a portion of the cement sheath to bending of the upper well portion. In a further example minimising the bending stiffness of the upper well portion may comprise locating a flexible material within at least one annulus; and In a further example minimising the bending stiffness of the upper well portion may comprise varying the bending stiffness along at least one of the plurality of tubular strings.

Abstract: A wellhead foundation is for one or more subsea wells. The wellhead foundation has a suction foundation provided with a housing with an open bottom and a top which is closable with a top cover, and one or more pipes being attached to the housing and extending from the top of the housing and at least over a substantial part of the vertical extent of the housing towards or beyond the open bottom of the housing inside or outside of the periphery of the housing, and a straight upper portion of each pipe projecting up above the top of the housing and forming an upper well-pipe portion which forms part of a high-pressure barrier in the well. The straight upper pipe portion of each pipe is arranged parallel to the center axis of the housing. A method of establishing a subsea wellhead foundation is described as well.
