Abstract:
A customizable closure system comprising panels of a pre-selected size and one or more conversion kits for mounting the panels. A room divider conversion kit comprises a hinge for converting the panels into room dividers, and a bypass conversion kit comprises a header for converting the panels into slidable panel doors, such as a closure for a shower area. Other conversion kits include a swing conversion kit and a hanger conversion kit. One embodiment of the panels further comprises a reinforcing system for securely retaining the panes with the panel.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a safety window for hurricane protection and crime prevention. According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the safety window for hurricane protection and crime prevention includes: an external frame which has a window shape and is installed in a window frame of a wall of a building; an internal frame which is coupled to the external frame; and a protection screen which comprises a plurality of holes to prevent an outsider from trespassing but allow air to pass therethrough, couples with the external and internal frames, and protects a window.
Abstract:
A laminated glass panel suitable for use in frameless glass structures includes a sheet of untempered glass such as art glass and can be held by conventional frameless glass mounting hardware. The panel remains held by the mounting hardware should the panel crack.
Abstract:
A composite door construction for exterior doors having one or more transparent panels is described. The doors include top and bottom rails and first and second side stiles. Each component includes an exterior cap of weather-resistant material. The caps are formed with a C-shaped cross-section yielding an interior cavity and include a supporting ledge extending from the innermost portion of the cap. An interior trim portion is shaped to fit into the C-shaped cross-section and an interior cavity. In doors having multiple transparent panels, one or more muntin bars support the inner edges of the panels. The muntin bars include an exterior cap with supporting ledges of weather-resistant material, an interior trim portion attached to a central groove in the exterior cap, and have drainage and sealant grooves. The outer portions and surfaces of the side stiles meet at an angle over ninety degrees to reduce binding between mating doors.
Abstract:
A continuously extruded profile sash and frame each having an integral rigid hinge thereon. The device comprises an operable hinge system wherein the load bearing hinge mechanics are extruded as an integral part of the extruded frame member and of the extruded sash moving panel, the sash and frame can each have a cell structure for increased structural integrity and thermal insulating capacity. A punch press may be used to create the male knuckle and female hinge components. At least one hinge pin can be inserted into the cylindrical cavity and run the length of the hinge. Panel and frame members include arcuate sides.
Abstract:
A window which comprises a hollow mullion plastic extrusion and a metal insert. The plastic extrusion is of a general T-shape having a hollow head portion and a hollow foot portion connected by a hollow stem portion which is open to both the hollow head and foot. The metal insert is of general T-shape having a head portion of the plastic extrusion, a stem portion to extend through the hollow stem of the plastic extrusion to support same and a foot portion to fit within and expand the hollow foot portion of the plastic extrusion.
Abstract:
A double-hung window structure including an upper window and a lower window within a window frame having seals. The upper and lower windows include a plurality of interlocking horizontal and vertical mutton members for forming a plurality of window openings with each having a window pane therein. The double-hung window structure includes a first sealing assembly located between the right stile of the upper window and the right jamb of the window frame; a second sealing assembly located between the left stile of the upper window and the left jamb of the window frame; a third sealing assembly located between the right stile of the lower window and the right jamb of the window frame; and a fourth sealing assembly located between the left stile of the lower window and the left jamb of the window frame. Additionally, the double-hung window structure includes a fifth sealing assembly located between the top rail of the upper window and the upper window track of the upper header of the window frame; a sixth sealing assembly located between the meeting rail of the upper window and the meeting rail of the lower window; and a seventh sealing assembly located between the bottom rail of the lower window and the lower window track of the sill of the window frame. The mutton members are formed of wood having a density of at least 44 pounds per cubic foot.
Abstract:
A new stained glass window design for reducing costs associated with securing stained glass. The inventive device includes a frame member having a hollow interior. The frame member includes a matrix of criss-crossing members disposed within the hollow interior. The frame has an interior peripheral edge. A plurality of stained glass pieces are positioned atop of the criss-crossing members and along the interior peripheral edge of the frame member. A quantity of gypsum cement connects each of the stained glass pieces together and secure the stained glass pieces to the frame member.
Abstract:
In a reinforcing structure for reinforcing a vertical frame member made of aluminum material and constituting a sash frame by attaching thereto a reinforcing member made of steel, the reinforcing member is an elongated member composed of an indoor side piece, an outdoor side piece and a connection piece. The vertical frame member comprises an indoor side vertical plate member, an outdoor side vertical plate member and a connection plate member. The indoor side vertical plate member has an end portion which is bent to form an indoor side recessed portion continuously extending in the longitudinal direction thereof, and the outdoor side vertical plate member has an end portion which is bent to form an outdoor side recessed portion continuously extending in the longitudinal direction thereof. The reinforcing member is attached to the vertical frame member in the manner that the indoor side, outdoor side and connection pieces of the reinforcing member respectively face the indoor side vertical, outdoor side vertical and connection plate members of the vertical frame member, and that end portions of the indoor side and outdoor side pieces of the reinforcing member are respectively inserted in the indoor side and outdoor side recessed portions of the vertical frame member.
Abstract:
A muntin bar strip member adapted to interconnect to a cooperating strip member. The strip member has a wall member; a coupling means, such as a flange, extending from a longitudinal edge of the wall member; and a female coupling member, such as a channel, extending along an opposite longitudinal edge of the wall member. A muntin bar can be formed from a strip member interconnected to a second similarly structured strip member, where the flange of the second strip member is engaged in the channel of the first strip member, and conversely the flange of the first strip member engaged in the channel of the second strip member.
