A method for producing a textile sheet heating element includes forming a knitted material and, in one and the same work step, inserting heat conductors as warp threads. Contact conductors that touch the heat conductors are inserted spaced from one another as weft threads or weft thread groups. A warp knitting machine or Raschel machine is used to produce the sheet heating element. The production speed of the knitting or Raschel machine is varied as a function of stitch formation. The warp knitting machine or Raschel machine has a magazine weft insertion system with feeding chains to feed in weft threads and a weft carriage to insert weft threads. Both the feeding chain and the weft carriage are paused for preset periods as a function of stitch formation.

A helical textile with a substantially uniform thickness has circumferential warp fibers defining a radial textile width from a textile inner diameter to a textile outer diameter. The circumferential warp fibers extend substantially in a first fiber direction. Weft fibers are inserted in a weft region between the textile inner diameter and the textile outer diameter extend substantially in a second fiber direction along a weft fiber axis. The weft fiber axis has a predefined angle with respect to a radial axis greater than zero degrees and less than ninety degrees. Knitted chain stitches secure the weft fibers to the circumferential warp fibers, where the knitted chain stitches are knitted across the weft region in a third fiber direction. The circumferential warp fibers and the weft fibers are non-interlaced, thereby forming a helical textile having a substantially uniform thickness from the textile inner diameter to the textile outer diameter.

A warp knitted fabric is disclosed having large grid openings formed by biaxially arranged stay- and weft threads. Also disclosed is a method of making the fabric. The method involves providing stay threads and weft threads which are bound to each other by stitches provided by warp threads. The number of stitches per unit length within a repeat and in the spacing between the crossing areas of the stay- and the weft threads is at least partially smaller than within the crossing areas themselves.

In a textile machine including needles for forming a plurality of warp yarns into stitches and a guide bar for guiding the warp yarns to the needles, the guide bar is constructed to lay warp yarns in patterns without moving the entire guide bar by providing the guide bar with at least one guide block movable relative to a fixed point on the guide bar. Each of the guide blocks includes a respective guide for one or more warp yarns. At least one guide block is connected in a chain configuration to at least one distance altering element, and the distance altering element is controlled to variably alter the distance between the guide block and the fixed point.

The arrangement provides warp threads for an oscillating weft thread magazine for warp knitting machine. The machine uses a creel, a first delivery device with constant delivery speed, and a second delivery device with a variable thread drive speed. The latter speed corresponds to the instantaneous take-off speed of the weft thread by the carriage. A storage arrangement is located between the two delivery devices for smoothing out the differences between the constant delivery speed and the variable take-off speed. This arrangement enables use of elastic weft threads on the weft thread magazine, so that they are provided in a state of constant tension stage; in particular, tension-free or very slightly tensioned.

The weft threads (10) are clamped in weft thread hooks (12) supported on longitudinal conveyors (43, 44) extending perpendicular to and adjacent opposite ends of a row of knitting needles (42) by means of clamping slides (20) mounted on the longitudinal conveyors (43, 44). The clamping slides (20) are supported for sliding movement in a perpendicular direction relative to the movement of the longitudinal conveyors (43, 44) and are movable between an inactive, retracted position away from the hooks (12) through a placement zone (E) and an active position pressed against the hooks (12) and the weft threads (10) as the longitudinal conveyors (43, 44) move through a clamping zone (K) extending both upstream and downstream of the row of knitting needles (42).

Non-woven, bias laid fabrics, where the various fabric layers are held together by external means, such as stitching, and wherein, preferably, at least two of the layers are formed at an angle of from 30.degree. to 150.degree. relative to the long axis of the fabric, are formed by directing at least two pluralities of yarns back and forth across the width of the forming fabric, to be wrapped around or mounted on a series of needles formed on a moving conveyor, one conveyor being placed on either side and moving in the direction of the long axis of the fabric. Speed of movement of the yarns can be determined by the speed of movement of the mechanism for the machine operated to hold the various fabric layers together; preferably said machine mechanism moves more slowly near the ends of each cycle, so that yarn carriers are similarly slowed at either end of the forming fabric width, aiding in making successive courses of yarn lie parallel to each other without the necessity for extra equipment. In one embodiment of the invention, the yarn carriers are provided with means to propel them in a direction generally away from the bonding portion of the machine to further assure the parallelism of successive courses of yarn. It is not necessary that the number of needles correspond to the number of yarns.

A weft thread magazine with constant weft thread delivery for a warp knitting machine has spools, from each of which there are led weft threads. These spools are rotatable about their longitudinal axis and are driven at a speed corresponding to the mean weft thread consumption speed. The weft threads are flat, untwisted ribbons which are fed from the spools tangentially. Between the spools and the thread guides there is a thread storage device. This storage device compensates for the continual thread delivery against the periodically changing weft thread consumption. The spools can be driven so that the weft threads are taken from the spool by at least one roller of a delivery apparatus. The roller is driven at a constant rate of rotation.

First and second spaced apart conveyors, extending toward the knitting instrumentalities of a knitting machine, each carry a plurality of thread clamping means. Guide means bring filling threads from filling thread supplies to the first conveyor where they are clamped. The guide means then moves to the second conveyor to pull filling threads from the supplies and draw them between the conveyors, the filling threads being clamped in the second conveyor. Each thread clamping means carried by each conveyor includes a pair of pivoted clamping members and resilient means urging them to a closed condition. An actuating cam engages the clamping members to open them for receiving a filling thread from the guide means. Funnel-like members are carried by the guide means for directing threads into the clamping means. A single locking bar carried by the guide means locks all filling threads against further withdrawal from the supplies after the threads are clamped in the second conveyor. Each conveyor comprises two spaced apart chains having pins extending between them, each pin serving as the pivot axis of one of the clamping means.

The single-stage building of 0.degree. belted pneumatic tires completely in flat band form on standard building drums, is disclosed. The feasibility of the process rests on the provision of the substantially inextensible metallic or non-metallic belt cords in the form of longitudinally extensible high "soft stretch" tapes. In a preferred version of the invention, the tape is composed of a plurality of cords each having formed therein a multiplicity of undulations which in any given straight length of the tape are substantially planar, the cords being disposed in side by side relation so that the planes of the undulations of each cord are generally parallel to the planes of the undulations of each adjacent cord, and the cords together with a relatively weak and frangible but only minimally undulated stabilizing yarn for the tape being secured to each other and held in their undulating state by a relative weak, chain stitch knitted, frangible stitching yarn or thread. The belt-forming structure is built by helically winding such tape circumferentially of the building drum in the medial region of the still cylindrical or flat band carcass at an angle of substantially 90.degree. to a plane including the common axis of the carcass and the building drum, with the undulations of the cords "on end", i.e. in planes generally normal to the surface of the building drum. Upon the raw tire then being radially expanded into its toroidal form, the stabilizing and stitching yarns break and the cords are straightened out, resulting in the formation of a mono-ply, plural-lead, helical cord 0.degree. belt in the shaped tire. The "soft stretch" of the tape used, i.e. the ratio of the length of the component cords when fully straightened without stretching, to the length of the unextended tape, may be as low as about 20% or as high as about 400%, depending on the extent to which, for any given tire, the belt-forming structure will have to expand radially from its starting diameter on the building drum to the final belt diameter in the toroidally shaped tire. Each cord may additionally be locally weakened at a multiplicity of longitudinally spaced points to facilitate a possible stretching or elongation of the cords after the same have been fully straightened out during the radial expansion of the belt. In any such tape, the component cords must be phased relative to each other to dispose the respective weakened portions of each cord out of lateral alignment with the weakened portions of at least each next adjacent cord, and the weakening interval should preferably be so selected that in the final belt the weakened portions are out of lateral alignment with each other in directions parallel to the tire axis. The full nature and extent of the invention is discernible, however, only by reference to the entire disclosure.
