With a method for the safe starting and/or stopping a rotor of a rotor spinning machine for the production of yarn, with a multiple number of rotors, each of which rotates in a rotor housing covered by a lid, each rotor is driven by its own motor and is held in at least one radially and/or axially active magnetic bearing by means of a position controller. A data connection of the motor is provided with a control unit, in order to drive the rotor in various operating states. There is a check of the control for driving the rotor, the position control for the one or more active magnetic bearings, the data connection for controlling the motor and/or the properly closed lid, and, in the event that predetermined target values and/or states are not met, the start of the rotor is blocked or the motor that is already running is selectively stopped. A rotor spinning machine is suitable for carrying out the method.

A procedure is provided for controlling individual components of a work station in a textile machine. The textile machine includes a plurality of the work stations with each work station having individual control devices. Components of the work stations are connected to a bus system, and the bus system is connected to a central control apparatus. A default value identifying address is set for the components. The central control apparatus recognizes that the components have been installed at the work stations and a recognition phase is initialized wherein the components are interrogated by the central control apparatus. The default address is converted to a component specific address for each of the components and the same type of components have different specific addresses. Operation of the components is controlled through the central control apparatus that communicates with selected components through their respective control device in accordance with their respective component specific address.

The piecing preparation apparatus includes one or more mobile units having cleaning apparatus for cleaning the spinning units and apparatus for preparing and transferring a thread end from a bobbin at each of the spinning units to the respective spinning rotors. Certain embodiments of the invention utilize a mobile piecing device which is operable to preform piecing operations at individual spinning units during normal operation of the spinning machine, to also carry the equipment for preparing the plurality of individual spinning units when the machine is completely shut down.
