    摘要: A method of reducing the formation of electrically resistive scale on a an article comprising a silicon-containing ferritic stainless subjected to oxidizing conditions in service includes, prior to placing the article in service, subjecting the article to conditions under which silica, which includes silicon derived from the steel, forms on a surface of the steel. Optionally, at least a portion of the silica is removed from the surface to placing the article in service. A ferritic stainless steel alloy having a reduced tendency to form silica on at least a surface thereof also is provided. The steel includes a near-surface region that has been depleted of silicon relative to a remainder of the steel.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process for the production of mild steel tubes suitable for heating installations. Coils of the tubes of mild steel are enclosed in a container and introduced into a furnace and there heated without the addition of protective gas up to a temperature between 640* and 900*C. When this temperature is reached wet hydrogen is introduced into the container in the furnace in order to lower the carbon and nitrogen contents of the steel and increase the size of the grains. Finally the container with the tubes is transferred to a cooling pit in order to cool.

    摘要: A process is provided for heating steel powder compacts in a controlled atmosphere consisting of a primary gas containing at least 80% by volume of an inert gas, and a secondary gas comprising 0.1 to 5% by volume, based on the volume of said primary gas, of a paraffinic hydrocarbon. The process makes it possible to reduce the residual oxygen concentration in the steel powder compacts, while maintaining accurate control of the carbon content.
