A lubricating composition includes at least one base oil, at least one borated dispersant, at least two antioxidants selected from amine antioxidants, phenolic antioxidants substituted with one or more linear or branched alkyl groups having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof, and at least one phosphite polymer having the formula (I) wherein: —each of the R1, R2, R3 and R4 can be independently selected from the C1-C20 alkyl, C3-C22 alkenyl, C6-C40 cycloalkyl, C7-C40 cycloalkenyl, C1-20 methoxy alkyl glycol ethers and Y—OH groups; —Y is selected from C2-C40 alkylene, C2-C40 alkyl lactone, —R7—N(R8)—R9— groups, in which R7, R8 and R9 are independently selected from hydrogen, C1-C20 alkyl, C3-C22 alkenyi, C6-C40 cycloalkyl, C7-C40 cycloalkenyl, C1-20 methoxy alkyl glycol ethers; —m is an integer from 2 to 100; —n is an integer from 1 to 1000.

Disclosed is a magnetic disk which has a lubricant layer with excellent heat resistance and high adhesiveness and is free from fly-stiction failure or corrosion failure even at an extremely low flying height of 10 nm or lower. Also disclosed is a magnetic disk which has a lubricant layer with good thermal properties and can exert a stable action over a wide temperature range. The magnetic disk comprises a substrate (1), and a magnetic layer (3), a carbon-containing protective layer (4) and a lubricant layer (5) provided on the substrate (1), wherein the lubricant layer (5) contains a magnetic disk lubricant comprising a compound having a phosphazene ring and two or more hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups in the molecule.

A process for preparing polyoxyalkylene phosphonates in high yield and purity without extensive isolation procedures. The process also enables hydroxy terminated polyoxyalkylene phosphonates to be produced with their attendant high aqueous solubility and the availability of the reactive group to have the end functionality easily molecularly modified. Products produced by these processes have enhanced dispersion, coating, adhesion, and plasticizing characteristics as a result of the lack of any steric hinderance on these polyoxyalkylene phosphonates.

A lubricant for improving the durability and reliability of recording media used in hard drives is disclosed. The lubricant comprises a perfluoropolyether main chain with a first end attached to a hexa(trifluoromethylphenoxy) cyclotriphosphazene, a second end attached to a bonding enhancer for enhancing bonding between the lubricant and a carbon-containing layer. The bonding enhancer of the lubricant can contain multiple hydroxyl, amide groups, 2,3-dihydroxy-1-propoxyl, acetamide, methacrylate, methyl methacrylate and glycidyl ether. Some bonding enhancers such as methacrylate, methyl methacrylate or glycidyl ether, can be further activated with ultraviolet light.
