摘要: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of aromatic hydroperoxides comprising contacting two liquid phases comprising an oily phase containing an aromatic compound having a secondary alkyl group and a basic aqueous phase under agitation with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a copper compound catalyst such as an inorganic salt or organic acid salt of copper, thereby to oxidize the aromatic compound to a corresponding aromatic hydroperoxide, wherein the liquid phase catalytic oxidation is carried out while maintaining the catalyst concentration in the liquid phases at 0.005 to 10 ppm as the copper atom and the pH value of the basic aqueous phase at 7.6 to 10. According to this process, by adoption of the above-mentioned specific catalyst concentration and pH value in combination, the rate of oxidation of the aromatic compound is increased and the selectivity to the hydroperoxide is improved.

摘要: A process for purifying at least one product from coal tar is described. The process involves separating a coal tar fraction having a boiling point in the range of about 180° C. to about 230° C. into an acidic portion and a non-acidic portion by contacting the fraction with a caustic compound. The acidic portion is separated into a cresol portion and a xylenol portion, and the non-acidic portion is separated into a naphthalene portion and a naphthalene co-boiler portion. The acidic portion and the non-acidic portions are separated by contacting with an adsorbent comprising small, discrete crystallites, the adsorbent having less than 10 wt % amorphous binder component. The various portions can be separated in a similar manner.

摘要: In a process for producing cumene and/or diisopropylbenzene which comprises, in combination,(I) an alkylating step,(II) a transalkylating step,(III) a catalyst separating step,(IV) a neutralization step, and(V) fractionally distilling step;characterized in that(a) step (I) is carried out at a temperature of about 40.degree. C. to about 85.degree. C. while maintaining the activity coefficient (M) of the catalyst at about 10.times.10.sup.-4 to about 300.times.10.sup.-4 and the concentration of aluminum chloride in the system at 0.005 to 0.15 mole/liter, and(b) step (II) is carried out without removing the catalyst from the reaction product of step (I) and at a temperature of about 40.degree. C. to about 75.degree. C. in the presence of added fresh aluminum chloride in an amount of 2 to 20 parts by weight/hr per 1000 parts by weight/hr of diisopropylbenzene in the reaction system while maintaining the activity coefficient (M) of the catalyst in the system at about 30.times.10.sup.-4 to about 300.times.10.sup.-4 and the concentration of aluminum chloride in the system at 0.3 to 1 mole/liter.

摘要: A stable creosote product is prepared from which little or no sludge heel settles and which does not require heat to be applied to prevent settling out of solids. The stable product is obtained by a method that mechanically reduces the particle size or the salts that form upon cooling below the limpid point. The layer of salt which settles on the bottom of the beaker is then mechanically broken and homogenized. The fine salts which had previously settled and were homogenized, did not resettle but remained relatively evenly dispersed throughout the mixture and remained dispersed even after prolonged periods of uninterrupted standing. The salts are not allowed to settle before homogenizing. Little or no heel formation was detected in the creosote in which the settled and material was homogenized as described.
