Abstract:
A radial reactor for utilization for catalytic reactions of gaseous or liquid feed streams including an annular catalyst bed, wherein the material contained within the catalyst bed includes an active catalyst material, contained within an outer ring-shaped layer of the catalyst bed, and a generally inert material, contained within an inner ring-shaped layer of the catalyst bed, wherein the generally inert material includes a potassium-containing compound, such as potassium oxide, hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate.
Abstract:
Alkylaromatic hydrocarbons including ethylbenzene are dehydrogenated in a vapor phase reactant stream, preferably at subatmospheric conditions. The resultant reaction zone effluent is partially condensed and then separated in a subatmospheric product settler. Hydrocarbons from the product settler are fractionated to yield a styrene bottoms stream, an overhead liquid recycled to the reaction zone and an overhead vapor. This vapor is admixed with vapors from the product settler, compressed to a superatmospheric pressure, and partially condensed to form a liquid which is fractionated to remove the net light aromatic hydrocarbons produced in the process.
Abstract:
Endothermic and exothermic reactions utilizing inert diluents or thermally stable reactants or product components are conducted by employing the inert diluent, etc., initially as a heat exchange medium followed by combining at least a portion thereof with the principal reactant to form the reactant feed stream to the reaction zone. The concept is useful in situations wherein isothermal conditions are desired. Both method and apparatus are described for carrying out the concept with particular application to reactions involving the dehydrogenation of alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method for inhibiting the premature polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising adding to said monomers an effective amount of at least one inhibitor selected from the group consisting of C-nitrosoaniline and quinone imine oxime compounds. Also disclosed is a composition of matter comprising: A) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and B) an effective inhibiting amount, sufficient to prevent premature polymerization during distillation or purification of said ethylenically unsaturated monomer, of at least one inhibitor selected from the group consisting of C-nitrosoaniline and quinone imine oxime compounds used together with an effective amount of oxygen or air to enhance the inhibiting activity of said inhibitor.
