Abstract:
A clean burning premeasured compressed charge for use in black powder firearms as well as cartridges. The premeasured compressed charge is manufactured to have a substantially desired shape which facilitates improved flame propagation by the leading end wall and along the exposed sidewall surfaces of the compressed charge to result in a more complete and rapid burning of the compressed charge both from the leading end wall toward the trailing end wall and also radially inwardly from each one of the four sidewalls toward a center of the premeasured compressed charge. The premeasured compressed charge has a leading end portion and a trailing end portion and the leading end portion is either the same size or a smaller dimension than the trailing end portion.
Abstract:
A pyrotechnic composition useful for gunpowder, propellant or explosive purposes, which comprises an organic acid such as ascorbic or erythorbic acid, a nitrate salt oxidizer, and about 6-15% of potassium perchlorate, has improved properties including reduced residue.
Abstract:
Explosive compositions are disclosed herein. The compositions include a diesel fuel and a vacuum gas oil. Some compositions disclosed herein include an emulsion that includes an oxidizer in a discontinuous phase and a blend of diesel fuel and vacuum gas oil in a continuous phase. Methods of manufacturing explosive compositions are also disclosed herein.

Abstract:
Oxidizing compounds are provided which have improved thermal stability and which are particularly useful in explosive and propellant compositions. Such oxidizers are produced by making solid solutions of the oxidizer with at least one other compound. The solid solutions of particular interest for the purpose of this invention are ammonium perchlorate (NH4CIO4) and potassium perchlorate (KClO4), or ammonium perchlorate and ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3).
Abstract:
Pyrotechnic compositions are provided herein. The pyrotechnic composition includes potassium nitrate (KNO3), potassium perchlorate (KClO4), an inorganic fuel including boron, an organic fuel including one or more of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and one or more binders. The pyrotechnic composition may have one or more of: a heat of explosion (HEX) of greater than or equal to about 5.000 J/g, a maximum flame temperature at combustion (Tc) of greater than or equal to about 2,500 K (2,227° C.), and a gas yield of greater than or equal to about 15 moles/kg. Methods of preparing the pyrotechnic composition are also provided including wet granulation methods.

Abstract:
A gas generating system devoid of a booster chamber. The inflator includes a composition having a metal chlorate as a first oxidizer, a primary fuel selected from carboxylic acids, dicarboxylic acids, and mixtures thereof, and a second oxidizer not having perchlorate character. The metal chlorate is provided at about 10-20 wt %, the primary fuel is provided at about 15-45 wt %, and the second oxidizer is provided at about 30-50 wt % stated by weight of the total composition.
Abstract:
A solid composition for generating gases when ignited is a combination 5-aminotetrazole and at least two oxidizers selected from the group consisting of potassium nitrate, potassium per-chlorate, ferric oxide, copper oxide and manganese dioxide.
