    摘要: Methods for heat treating glass sheets (13) are disclosed in which the sheets (13) are held in a vertical orientation in a treatment container (15) during the heat treatment. The container (15) includes a support system for the glass sheets (13) that comprises a bottom support (17), two side supports (19a, 19b), and a top support (21). The sheets (13) are slid into the container (15) without contact between their side edges (23a, 23b) and the side supports (19a, 19b). The top support (21) is then slid onto the tops of the sheets (13) without contacting the sheets' top edges (25). In certain embodiments, flushing air which has been HEPA filtered and pre-heated is passed through the container (15) during the heat treatment. Apparatus for practicing the methods of the invention are also disclosed.

    摘要: A system for adjusting position of glass plates includes (1) a chain for conveying glass plates into a bending furnace, the chain having (a) alternate links, (b) connecting pins for holding the alternate links together, (c) extension pins extending from some of the connecting pins toward the corresponding glass plates; (2) supporting members fixed to the extension pins, for supporting the glass plates and for guiding the glass plates into the bending furnace; (3) a first image sensor unit for imaging actual positions of the extension pins; (4) a processor for computing a difference between the actual position of each extension pin and a reference position of each extension pin; and (5) a display device for displaying a command to adjust position of each extension pin, based on the difference, to make each extension pin take the reference position, thereby adjusting position of the glass plates.

The present invention discloses different techniques to develop an upward bow in the intermediate portion of the glass sheet sufficient to compensate approximately for the undesired excessive downward sag.

    摘要: A gas jet pump (10) for producing a secondary flow of gas from a primary flow. The jet pump is disclosed as a tubular body (28) having a flow passage into which the primary flow is introduced through a plurality of jet openings (36, 38, 40) in the tubular body. Each jet opening has axial and circumferential components and is tangent with the surface defining the flow passage so as to produce a vortical flow in an axial direction within the body upon introduction of high pressure gas through the openings. The primary flow produces an amplified secondary flow through the tubular body. An annular manifold (22, 24, 26) is mounted on the tubular body to selectively feed the primary flow to the jet openings. The gas jet pump has application in sheet glass treating apparatus (50, 110), and has particular utility in apparatus used to bend sheet glass. A method of manufacturing a gas jet pump is also disclosed.

    摘要: Glass handling tongs are disclosed for use in holding a glass bracket generally in a vertical plane. The tongs are designed to be self adjusting in the sense that they will reposition themselves to grip a glass bracket which has been formed so as to have a vertical curvature therein. The tongs reposition themselves to grip the glass bracket generally on a tangent to the radius of curvature developed in the glass in a glass forming operation whereby a defect known as tong kinks is eliminated.
