摘要:
An apparatus for mixing gas and liquid is disclosed. The apparatus may have a plurality of blades rotated about a common shaft. The blades may have a forward portion, which cuts through a liquid, and a trailing portion, which forms the leading part of a gas cavity. The gas cavity is in communication with a gas inlet and the bulk fluid. As the blades pass through a liquid, a reduced pressure zone is formed immediately behind the blade. The reduced pressure zone allows air to be aspirated from the gas inlet into the gas cavity adjacent to the blade. Gas in the gas cavity is sheared into discrete bubbles and transferred to the liquid by the action of the trailing blade wake currents.

There is disclosed a paddlewheel aerator drive mechanism in an electric motor powered float mounted paddlewheel aerator for fish farms or similar applications, including a rugged lightweight frame with foam flotation elements and a rotatable multi-paddle rotor at least about three feet in diameter with the paddle rotation path extending substantially below the water line. One end of its shaft is secured in the wall of a substantially water tight drive box assembly. Extending into the drive box assembly parallel to and generally opposite the paddlewheel rotor shaft is a shaft of an electric motor, also mounted on the frame. A speed reduction chain drive inside the drive box couples the motor shaft to the paddlewheel rotor shaft and includes at least two conventional drive chains, a small sprocket on the motor shaft, a large sprocket on the paddlewheel rotor shaft, and intermediate large and small sprockets on an intermediate shaft mounted in intermediate shaft bearings on an intermediate bearing take-up pedestal secured inside the chain drive box which has a removable cover with a substantially watertight seal. The arrangement of the chain drive box assembly and the chain drive therein is such that moderate flexing of the overall structure does not strain the chain drive or adversely affect its operation.

An apparatus for aerating fish ponds utilizes a cylindrical brush mounted for rotary motion below the top of a dam or headwall. Water passing over the dam and falling into a fish pond below the dam falls onto and over the cylindrical brush causing the brush to rotate. The rotating brush breaks up the falling water into droplets as the water passes through the brush bristles. Below the rotating brush, the water droplets fall through an air-water mixing zone where atmospheric oxygen is dissolved by the water droplets thus increasing the dissolved oxygen concentration of the water.

A waterwheel system for aerating water in sewage treatment tanks and fishponds, etc., an aerator waterwheel system in which a plurality of honeycombed tubes are arranged, and securely held in place, encircling a rotary shaft, between discs mounted on both ends of the said rotary shaft and parallel thereto, thereby forming a waterwheel; this waterwheel is disposed near the water surface of the water tank so that the honeycombed tubes situated at the bottom are immersed in water; the aeration of water is made by turning the aforementioned waterwheel by use of a driving means at such a rotary speed that heavy splashing will not be produced from the aforementioned waterwheel; this way of aeration of water is so effective that this system is economical, and is finding wide uses such a sewage treatment, supply of oxygen and cooling of hot and warm water.

A process and apparatus for treating wastewater with oxygen in which the wastewater is circulated on a horizontal course and is exposed to the introduction of oxygen or oxygen-enriched air in one or several sections of its course whereas it is exposed to the atmosphere on the remainder of its course. Oxygen of a higher concentration than atmospheric oxygen is contacted at least intermittently with the water surface and introduced into the wastewater through agitation of the water surface. At least a part of the total volume of the wastewater is treated by carrying out alternately at least two of the following three modes of operation: (a) surface aeration of the wastewater using atmospheric air; (b) oxygenation while maintaining atmospheric pressure above the wastewater; and (c) oxygenation while maintaining positive pressure above the wastewater with the operating modes alternating with each other in response to variations in the volume and/or character of the wastewater being treated.

An apparatus for introducing gas, e.g. atmospheric oxygen, into a liquid such as waste water or sewage comprises a plurality of ribs of airfoil cross-section and forming venturi nozzles which are first constricted and then widened in the direction of liquid flow. The ribs are formed with minute passages for introducing the gas into the liquid perpendicular to the direction of liquid flow across the ribs.

Process for treating sewage by using algal photosynthesis for removing contaminants from sewage. The sewage is treated in a channelled algae pond while the sewage meanders through the channels in the pond. The process includes integrated day-time and night-time cycles enabling continuous operation over a 24 hour period. An essential step in the process involves varying the flow rate between the day-time and night-time cycles with a cage aerator. The flow rate during the day-time cycle is controlled by the cage aerator so as to increase the amount of algae in the sewage that is exposed to light and bring about nutrient exchange between the bottom and surface of the sewage in the channels without stirring up the sludge in the channels. The rotational speed of the cage aerator is increased during the night-time cycle so as to agitate the sewage to stir up the sludge and beat air into the sewage to increase its oxygen content. Thus the process includes mechanically applying oxygen to the sewage and stirring up the sludge during the night-time cycle with the same apparatus used to increase the exposure of sewage to light during the day-time cycle. The process also includes the step of withdrawing the oxygen rich upper portion of the algae pond during the day-time cycle, enabling the effluent to be treated in an autoflotation unit.

Aeration rotor mounted in pit containing liquid for receiving animal waste. Rotor aerates liquid in pit. Rotor includes structure for entrapping air from above liquid and releasing it beneath surface of liquid. Rotor includes structure for lifting liquid above surface thereof and then spilling it back. Deflector structure directs liquid, carried around rotor and dropping behind rotor, toward rotor bottom while permitting foam accumulations behind rotor to pass through rotor to prevent foam build-up.
