Abstract: Embodiments of product handling systems facilitate transfer of individual product items from incoming bulk form into dedicated trays for inspection, sorting, selection, and packaging. Inspection may comprise interrogation of product items within a tray by electromagnetic (e.g., optical, hyperspectral) or other (e.g., physical, acoustic, gas sensing, etc.) techniques. Prior to packaging, product items disposed within the tray may be stored in a moveable carousel responsible for controlling environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, illumination, ambient gases, product-to-product interactions, and/or others. Movement of product items from a carousel's transfer station to an outside staging position may be accomplished using robots and/or conveyor belts. Embodiments may allow rapid, low-cost consumer selection of specific individual product items based upon their accompanying metadata (e.g., source, identifier), in combination with the results of inspection (e.g., visual appearance). Embodiments may receive product items pre-packaged in tray format to expedite inspection, sorting, selection, and packaging.

Abstract: The present technology is generally directed to methods and systems for automated food packaging. The method and system includes singulating a plurality of elongate food products into a plurality of individual product pieces, conveying the plurality of individual product pieces along a moving surface, depositing a portion of the individual product pieces into a bucket, where the products are deposited such that a length of greater than about 90% of the individual product pieces are generally aligned parallel with the first side or second side of the bucket. Methods and systems include measuring a height between a top surface of the deposited portion of produce pieces and a top side of the moving surface, vertically lowering the bucket if the measured height is less than a threshold amount, and depositing a second portion of individual product pieces into the vertically lowered bucket.

Abstract: A harvesting system may include a harvester apparatus defining an onboard storage structure and having a primary movement direction, and including a harvesting head and a crop material conveying structure for conveying the crop materials from the storage structure to a crop transporting vehicle. The conveying structure may have an auger assembly with an inboard end and an outboard end, and a dispensing spout at the outboard end. The auger assembly may include an inboard portion located toward the inboard end and an outboard portion located toward the outboard end, the outboard portion being movable with respect to the inboard portion. The outboard portion may be movable with respect to the inboard portion between a base position and a discharge position, and interiors of the inboard and outboard portions may be in communication with each other in at least the base and discharge positions of the outboard portion.
