Abstract:
An improved snap-on/twist off closure which is very durable. The invention is also directed to a package comprising the closure, e.g., a bottle in combination with the closure. The closure includes an upper wall defining an opening and a cylindrical snap on pipe depending from the upper wall. The pipe includes threads designed to mate with external threads on a neck of the bottle. The threads on the pipe and threads on the neck of the bottle pass over each other when the closure is snapped onto the bottle during manufacture. The pipe includes a resistance recess and a guidance recess. The resistance recess and the guidance recess accommodate a forcing element on a shoulder of the bottle and permit unscrewing of the closure
Abstract:
A metal container body 1 comprises a base and a generally cylindrical side wall 3. The top edge of the cylindrical side wall is rolled over to form a hollow annular bead 5 surrounding the upper open end of the container body and a notch 6 is formed at a circumferential point in the annular bead. The container body is for use with a releasable closure 2 formed with an end wall 7 and a depending skirt 8 and having an annular layer of sealing material 9 provided on the inside of the end wall adjacent the skirt. When the closure is pressed onto the container body, the annular bead engages the annular layer of sealing material and some of that material extends into the notch 6. The closure is held on the container only by the partial vacuum formed therein during processing of a food product in the container. After processing, the user opens the container by rotating the closure. Sealing material in the notch forces the closure to lift off from the container to break the seal and release the closure.
Abstract:
There is a resealable closure for plastic containers of a type having a mouth (7) formed with an inner neck bore (8) and spaced apart neck stubs (9) arranged around the outside of the neck. The closure in one position of use has a top panel (1), a peripheral downwardly extending skirt (2) with inwardly directed locking lugs (3) and an inner spigot seal (4) dimensioned for an interference fit into said neck bore (8). The closure is adapted to removably seal the container by push fitting the spigot seal (4) into engagement with said neck bore and subsequently locking the closure by rotation to a position where the locking lugs (3) align under the neck stubs (9).
Abstract:
A press-on, twist-off container assembly of the type that is used, for example, and baby food containers includes a container that has, as conventional, a finish portion with at least one external thread and a closure that is mounted on the container. The closure is of the press-on, twist-off type and includes a panel portion and a skirt portion that together define a generally cylindrical interior recess. As is conventional, a deformable gasket is mounted within the interior recess that has a thread engaging portion that is deformed so as to at least partially conform to the external threads of said finish portion of said container. The thread engaging portion advantageously has a plurality of inwardly extending raised flutes that are circumferentially spaced irregularly about the thread engaging portion. At least some of the flutes are in contact with at least one of the external threads at respective points of contact, and each external thread has a total distance spanned by such points of contact. As a result of the irregular spacing of the flutes, the container assembly will have an aggregate distance spanned that is a sum of the total distance spanned for all of the external threads that is less than it would be were the flutes spaced regularly. Accordingly, the amount of torque that is necessary to remove the closure is comparatively reduced.
Abstract:
A container comprising a container body (1) with an opening (3) defining an axis (A) passing therethrough and a cap (2) having an upper portion (6) and a skirt portion (7) for closing the opening, the container body (1) having an outwardly projecting lip (4) around the opening (3), the cap having spaced apart inwardly projecting members (8) round an inner circumference of the skirt portion (7) and the lip (4) having recesses (5) in a lower part thereof for receiving the members (8) when the cap (2) is press fitted to the container (1), the cap (2) being arranged so that its circumference is distorted into a substantially polygonal shape as portions of the cap carrying the members (8) are flexed outwards when the cap (2) is pressed over the lip (4) until the members (8) snap fit into respective recesses (5) in the lip (4), the members (8) and recesses (5) being shaped such that subsequent rotation of the cap (2) relative to the container body (1) tightens the cap (2) against the lip (4). Various tamper evident bands connected to the skirt portion (7) by friable bridges (10A, 20A, 30A, 40A) and/or tether bands (10B, 20B, 30B) are also described.
Abstract:
A food or drink container kit includes a metal container including a round threaded neck having at least one integrally formed thread. The kit also includes a metal press-on, twist-off closure comprising a round skirt including a gasket material located on at least a portion of the interior of the skirt, a seal forming between the neck and skirt when the closure is placed on the container and heated.
Abstract:
A dispensing nozzle having: (i) an elongate nozzle body having a base portion and a dispensing end; (ii) an internal conduit in the nozzle body for delivering product from the base portion to the dispensing end; (iii) engaging formations on the nozzle for inter-engaging with co-operating engaging formations on a cap, to hold said cap in a position over-fitting the nozzle; and (iv) an external ramp on the nozzle body and against which a co-operating portion on the cap may act, to provide sufficient relative separation force between the cap and the nozzle body, to separate the engaging formations on the cap and the nozzle from an inter-engaged position. A cap for overfitting a dispensing nozzle is also provided having: (i) a first closed end; (ii) a housing for receiving an elongate nozzle body and defining a second open end; (iii) engaging formations on the cap for inter-engaging with co-operating engaging formations on the nozzle, to hold said cap in a position over-fitting the nozzle; and (iii) a mouth about the open end; at least one co-operating portion on the cap arranged to act on a ramping surface of the nozzle when overfitted on the nozzle so as to provide sufficient relative separation force between the cap and the nozzle body, to separate the engaging formations on the cap and the nozzle from an inter-engaged position. The cap and nozzle when inter-engaged are easily separated by substantially less than one 360° turn and provide a strong separating force which can overcome fouling or bonding caused by curing of dispensed product.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a dispenser/applicator (100) comprising a recipient consisting of a body (105) and a distribution head (120) which is provided with at least one opening (121) and a cap (110) for blocking said distribution head by being axially sunk thereinto. According to the invention, a) the arrangement of the openings (121) is not revolutionally symmetrical to any other axis A parallel to the sinking direction, b) the cap comprises a bottom (112) provided with a single axial projection or a plurality of n axial projections (111) having a cross-section which is adapted to that of the openings in order to block the same, and c) said cap is provided with a first orientation means (115; 215 and 217) and said head is provided with a second orientation means (125 and 127; 225), the first and second orientation means co-operating during the axial sinking process in such a way as to orient by rotation and then axially displace the cap towards the head such that the axial projections extend up to the hole of said openings and block the same. In another embodiment of the inventive dispenser/applicator, the arrangement of the openings has an n order symmetry in relation to the axis A.
Abstract:
A tamper-evident, snap-on, screw-off closure is used with a specially shaped container neck. One neck has double lead external threads and, below the threads, a conical wall having external ratchet teeth. The closure has an upper skirt having internal threads mating with the neck threads. A conical lower skirt is connected to the upper skirt by a plurality of frangible bridges. The lower skirt has internal ratchet teeth to mate with the neck ratchet teeth. The cap skirt threads are double pitch and slightly over 360° in length. When the cap is applied to the neck it snaps on in two stages. The lower skirt has a tear tab which, when pulled, fractures the lower skirt on a vertical line. Continued pulling on the tab sequentially fractures the bridges. Another neck has a neck stretch with multiple neck threads and a locking wall below the neck stretch with a plurality of external teeth. The closure has an upper skirt with multiple closure threads which mate with the neck threads and a tamper-evidencing band with a plurality of internal teeth shaped and positioned to engage the external teeth. The teeth are shaped to guide the teeth into side-by-side interengage during axial application of the cap to the neck.
