The load-carriers may be passenger cabins, freight loads or automobile platforms and in each case are loaded and unloaded at separate loading and loading regions. Loading regions are preceded by queue portions of branch paths and may include a group of regions which may be a series of cabin loading regions along a branch path or may be automobile loading regions in side-by-side lanes. Passenger station arrangements are provided for rapid and efficient movement of passengers and for transfer operations when desired. Platform constructions and loading arrangements are provided for rapid loading and unloading and safe transport of automobiles.

My conveyor comprises an associated track-bound car including a drive motor supplied with drive current by current-carrying rails, a container, and a cover for the conveyor, as well as a track on which the conveyor runs by a plurality of stations. In order to prevent unauthorized opening of the cover a latch of a locking mechanism mounted in the track-bound car is restrained in a locked configuration. The latch can be unlocked by an electromagnetic unlocking mechanism mounted in the track-bound car. A very simple control of the unlocking mechanism can be provided, when, at a position or station in the conveyor where it is to be unlocked, an unlocking signal generator is present, which is automatically connectable with the track-bound car, in order to supply the unlocking mechanism with a required unlocking current.

A dispatcher is provided comprising a support adjacent the track and a plurality of rows of encoders on the support. Each row is alignable with a respective guide on one of the cars and each encoder is also alignable with the respective position on the respective guide. The encoders each comprise a remotely operable abutment pin projectable from the support into the respective guide such that displacement of a car past a support having one such abutment pin on each such row projecting from the support displaces the respective markers along the respective guides. Apparatus is provided for displacing the abutment pins and the side of the car away from each other when the desired address code has been set on the side of the car by displacement of the markers with the abutment.

A vehicle switching arrangement comprises an overhead monorail guideway that includes a mainline section and a diverging section merging with the mainline section to define a switching station. In addition, a bogie unit is arranged for rollable transport along the guideway and includes port and starboard main wheels rollably engaging the guideway. The bodie unit also includes a guide arrangement for selectively acting against the guideway to load either the port or the starboard main wheels in excess of the normal vehicle load thereof for establishing a vehicle heading through the switching station. Furthermore, stationary fail-safe cams are provided on the guideway to cooperate with cam followers carried by the bogie unit for ensuring safe transit through the switching station in the event of malfunction.
