Abstract:
A single-axle wheel set with outer suspension supports for railway vehicles with pendulum-type suspension. This wheel set consists of a flat, horizontal chassis on which the independent, movable wheels are mounted, and upright suspension supports situated at the outer part of the wheels and joined to each other at their upper part by means of a crosspiece to form a portico, in whose upper part suspension springs are provided.
Abstract:
Single-axle running gear with movable independent wheels for articulated car transporter wagons. The running gear comprises a carrying frame (1), suspension springs (2) with vertical dampers (AV) mounted inside them, sliding shoes for supporting the running gear during the process of changing track gauge, suspension headers (4) with stabilizing arms (5), hanging suspension links connected to the suspension headers, and systems for guiding the running gear. The invention is useful for allowing the articulated car transporter platform wagons to be used on networks with two different track guages.
Abstract:
Railborne vehicle comprising a gantry bogey, provided between mutually opposite ends of two successive carriages. A bottom plate 1, 2 projects from each of both carriage body ends to form a passage between the carriages. The two bottom plates 1, 2 are interconnected by a joint, preferably a spherical joint 3. In order to transmit the forces resulting from lateral torsional deformations of the carriage superstructure when negotiating curves and arising from uneven tracks, the bottom plates 1, 2 are interconnected by connecting beams 11 which are flexible and torsionally deformable and are connected at their ends by resilient connections to the bottom plates 1, 2.
Abstract:
Elastomeric rubber bearing for being connected between two bodies. The bearing employs an element having a series of resilient elements connected together by a series of interposed rigid elements. The thickness of the resilient elements and the width of the cross-section of the resilient and rigid elements vary in relation to the position of the elements.
Abstract:
A vehicle truck embodying articulated subtrucks or steering arms having a plurality of wheelsets, with steering arm interconnections establishing coordinated steering motions of the wheelsets, the truck also having elastic restraining devices for stablilizing steering and other motions of conventional rotating axle wheelsets and still further having linkage interrelating relative lateral motions of the truck and body of the vehicle, which add to the stability and steering to trucks having rotating axle wheelsets and which will provide steering for wheelsets equipped with independently rotatable wheels. A method and structure is provided for adapting or "retrofitting" existing equipped truck structures with rotating axle wheelsets in a manner to enhance the steering and stablilizing characteristics. Four-point suspension of car bodies and truck side frames adapted to function as swing hangers in truck equipped with steering is disclosed.
Abstract:
An articulated railcar for transportation of highway trailers is lightweight and has a deck height which permits heavy highway trailers to be carried without exceeding the maximum allowable center of gravity height above the top of the rail. The railcar comprises a plurality of car bodies positioned end to end witharticulated connections therebetween, each car body having a skeleton structure with a depressed center sill extending centrally for the length of the car body, the center sill having goose neck projections at each end, with the ends of the center sill at a higher elevation than the remainder of the center sill, end sills at each end of the center sill extending perpendicularly from each side of the center sill, the end sills adjoining the articulated connections, body side bearing pads located on the underside of each of the end sills, the body side bearing pads offset longitudinally from a plane representing the end of the center sill towards the adjoining articulated connection, a plurality of truck assemblies with wheels, the truck assemblies positioned below the articulated connections to support the adjoining ends of the car bodies and having truck side bearings located below the body side bearing pads, the articulated connections comprising connectors mounted on each of the truck assemblies for connecting the adjoining ends of the car bodies together, and for pivotally supporting the adjoining ends of the car bodies on each of the truck assemblies.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises an elongated container which may be carried either by rail or on a highway by a conventional truck tractor. The container includes a pair of dolly engaging pins fixed to its floor at the opposite ends thereof. The pins are adapted to engage a fifth wheel mechanism mounted on a dolly having wheels thereon adapted to engage conventional railroad rails. The dolly includes two fifth wheel mechanisms, one for receiving the pin from one container and the other for receiving the pin from another container. Also mounted on the undersurface of the container is a fifth wheel carriage which is adapted to slide longitudinally with respect to the container and which is adapted to engage the fifth wheel mechanism of a conventional truck tractor. A pair of truck wheels are mounted on a carriage which can be mounted to the rear end of the container for use on a highway when being pulled by a truck tractor.
Abstract:
An articulated truck center connection of known construction joins extensions extending in opposite directions from the transverse center of adjacent car end portions to the center plate of a truck supporting the adjacent ends of the cars. A pair of side bearings are mounted on the truck bolster on opposite sides of the articulated center connection. Each side bearing includes a rectangular channel or tube mounted on the truck and a first bearing surface which receives a first extension from one adjacent car end. The first extension is free to slide horizontally on the first bearing. The channel or tube extends above the first bearing surface and a second extension from the other adjacent car includes a depending bearing member which rests upon and is supported by the first bearing member. A pivot allows the second car end to rotate vertically about the center connection as the cars transverse vertical inclines. The depending member is free to slide upon the upper surface of the first bearing member as the second car end rotates horizontally relative to the truck.
