Abstract: A snow chain system that attaches to the frame of a semi-truck and/or trailer, or a large commercial construction vehicle. The system includes a removable chain box, a chain barrel, a chain spreader, flashlight driver notification, a drag brake, a box swivel, and tire clamp. The snow chain is rolled out of the chain box directly onto a tire tightly with minimal human involvement. It provides for installed a tight snow chain onto the tire when rollout of the snow chain to the tire is completed. After snow chain use, it rolls up manually back into the chain box and is ready for immediate service should another need arise. All necessary equipment is organized, helping the driver with safety concerns.

Abstract: An apparatus for applying chains to a tire comprises an elongate member having c-shaped opening at a first end thereof and a handle at a second end thereof. The apparatus further includes a slot therethrough adapted to support a key rotatable between a first position contained within the slot and a second position extending perpendicularly from the slot. A method of applying tire chains comprises comprising engaging a link of a tire chain within the c-shaped opening and drawing the link of the tire chain into engagement with a binder located at a distal end of the tire chain. The method further comprises locating the binder within the c-shaped opening, rotating the binder into a closed position with the elongate member, rotating a key out of the slot, engaging the key within a lock in the tire chain and locking the tire chain with the key.

Abstract: A tool connected to a traction chain or another traction device serves as an extension/guide for leading and pulling the chain onto a tire. An elongated belt of the tool is placed around the tire tread and attached to the leading end of the chain. As the vehicle is moved a short distance, friction between the tire and belt (and capture of the belt between the tire and the ground/road) draw the belt and hence the tire traction chain around the circumference of the tire on which the belt is placed and/or onto adjacent tire(s). A stretcher/expander at another location(s) on the chain fully-expands the chain during installation. The preferred tool is easier to lift and manipulate than the chain and need not be positioned or manipulated in the space behind the tire (away from the user) or in the space between dual tires.

Abstract: A tire chain container apparatus which is comprised of a bottom casing or bottom having an internal storage area for receiving tire chains and which is designed so that it can stand in an upright position. A cover for the casing is formed substantially of a molded plastic material and is adapted to be used as a mounting member for installing a tire chain around a vehicle wheel tire. The container cover is provided with a pair of ramps leading to a somewhat dished or concave upward surface and is provided with a recess in the upper surface to receive a portion of the tire chain. The cover is formed so that it is not only light in weight, but includes internal ribs in order to reinforce the same and structurally accommodate the weight of the vehicle carried by that wheel and tire and supported by the cover. Carrying handles are mounted on the casing for carrying the apparatus and which handles are adapted to hold the cover in place and displaceable to permit removal of the cover.
