    摘要： A method of and apparatus for engraving signs and the like utilizes a technique wherein letters, numerals or other configurations are engraved in a workpiece without the necessity of first centering the workpiece, by progressively advancing the workpiece lengthwise through a guide path disposed beneath a template holder and successively placing desired templates in the holder as the workpiece is advanced thereunder. The guide path will accommodate boards of different widths and thicknesses and the holder is adapted to receive templates of different sizes according to the size of the sign to be formed. After the sign has been engraved, it is finished by painting the engraved face, then removing a thin layer of the engraved face so as to remove the paint from the surface, leaving only the engraved or inset portions painted.

    摘要： Devices, kits, and methods for making a carved crayon are provided. In one aspect, a crayon carving device includes a base, a pantograph armature coupled to the base, a crayon positioner, and at least one guide template parallel to the crayon positioner. The pantograph armature includes a motorized drive shaft with a drill tip for carving an outside surface of a crayon body, as well as a guide tip for tracing along a guide template that directs where the drill tip carves. In some embodiments, the guide template includes a stationary bridge support and a plurality of removable carving bucks that insert into one of multiple openings on the bridge support. The surface features of each of the carving bucks may be traced by the guide tip to generate a corresponding carving on the surface of a crayon body.

    摘要： A character dial assembly used with a machine for engraving characters on finger rings and other metallic ornamental articles, which comprises a lower circular dial member and an upper circular dial member having a diameter smaller than the lower dial member. Each of the two dial members has its upper surface engraved with a set of various characters which are disposed circumferentially on the dial member in equal spaced relationship with one another. The lower dial member also has its upper surface impressed with index characters on its upper surface corresponding to the characters engraved thereon and disposed radially outwardly of the corresponding engraved characters. The upper dial member has a cut out section for obtaining access to the engraved characters on the lower dial member. The lower and upper dial members are coaxially connected together for rotation relative to each other.

    摘要： An engraving machine utilizing an elongate guide letter holder, and an adjacent workpiece holder adjustably disposed essentially parallel thereto. A movably mounted router assembly, comprising a stylus and a relatedly movable router means, is operatively disposed over such holders such that an operator grasping the stylus and tracing selected guide letters disposed on the guide letter holder brings about like movements of the router with respect to the workpiece mounted on the workpiece holder, with the bit of the router being caused to cut the selected letters into the workpiece. Advantageously, each of the holders utilizes a rapidly operated locking means that simplifies the task of removably securing the selected guide letters and the selected workpiece in a desired, aligned relationship on their respective holders. By virtue of the fact that the principal components of my machine can be easily placed in a preascertained relationship with each other, my invention lends itself to use with a book of precalculated tables that serve to further reduce setup time, even when workpiece size varies from piece to piece. My invention also comprises a novel method of rapidly making signs of desired size and content, prepared by reference to such book of tables.
