摘要: First document/image data is printed onto a sequence of sheets that includes sheets of a given size, and sheet(s) of a size that in at least one dimension is larger than the sheets of the given size. At the same time the first document/image data is being printed, second document/image data, i.e., foldout data, is printed onto the outer margin, i.e., a foldout portion, of the sheet(s) of the larger size. The larger-size, foldout sheet(s) is then folded so as to be creased near its overlap with the given-size sheets, and is collated into the sequence of the given-size sheets to form a bundle that is then bound. Thereafter trimming to size the non-bound edge(s) of the bundle slices away the crease in the foldout sheet, leaving the foldout cut-away as an insert tucked into the booklet.

摘要: This is a machine which assists the operator in assembling paper dust jackets around the hard covers of a new book. The machine includes the plurality of vacuum suction cups mounted on a pair of oscillating transferring arms which transport the paper jacket from a supply stack to position the jacket on the back of a hard cover book while the book is being held in a positioning jig which also supports the covers in substantially horizontal position to receive the jacket from the vacuum cup and transfer arm assembly. The transfer arms are mounted on an oscillating shaft which is actuated by the positive air discharge from a compressor. A vacuum pump provides the vacuum for the suction cups. The chain and sprocket drive rotates the transfer arms and the suction cups from the plane of the pickup position to the plane defined by the book covers in the positioning jig during the transfer movement of the arms through their predetermined arc.

摘要: A machine to cover articles with flexible plastic material sheets. The machine includes an assembly for heat-sealing and cutting the sheets which cooperates with a work surface. The assembly includes a first and a second element, of which at least the first element is movable with respect to the other, and the two elements being arranged on opposite sides of the work surface. The first element includes a cutting and sealing blade having an electric current which passes through it and the second element including a cutting and sealing counter blade. Operation levers are provided to move the cutting and sealing blade from a rest position to a work position where the cutting and sealing blade engages the cutting and sealing counter blade. The first element and the levers belong to a unit connected to the work surface in a removable manner. The unit also includes elastic portions for holding the blade at a rest position.

摘要: A printing mechanism is disclosed in a high speed apparatus for making low cost integrated linings to be applied to a succession of books being conveyed through a bookmaking machine. The printing mechanism is supported on a frame in a feed path of strip stock for printing simulated headbands on one surface of the strip, and a cutter is operatively supported on the frame for cutting the printed strip transversely of its longitudinal axis into individual linings to be successively applied to books being conveyed through the machine.

摘要: Bookbinding unit that, in feeding cover sheets to a predetermined cover-fitting position, is able to feed various sheets/leaves, yet without defacing of or scratch marks in the cover sheets, nor press marks during cover formation, occurring. Provided are an incoming sheet conveyance path for sequentially bringing in printed sheets; a stacking tray unit for stacking and collating into bundles sheets from the conveyance path; a bookbinding process path that transports sheet bundles from the stacking tray unit to a predetermined cover-binding position; and a cover feed path for feeding cover sheets to the cover-binding position. A protective-sheet storage tray for supplying jacketing sheets is annexed to the cover feed path, and a conveyance unit that overlays fed cover sheets with jacketing sheets from their storage tray and transports the jacketed cover sheets to the cover-sheet binding position is disposed in the cover feed path.

摘要: Paper jackets are automatically applied to hard cover books in a manner which provides a good fit between the jacket and book and insures against the jacket folds slipping free of the book covers during or immediately subsequent to jacket application. The books are supported with the covers opened outwardly, a jacket sheet is draped over the spine of the book, the jacket material is urged downwardly simultaneously from both sides so as to tightly conform to the book and the opposite edge portions of the jacket sheet are folded around the front edges of the book covers while applying heat to thereby define jacket flaps which slide inwardly when the book covers are reclosed.

摘要: Book jacketing apparatus comprises a vertical frame mounting a pair of clamp arms arranged for clamping the bunched leaves of a book as the open book cover is wrapped with a dust jacket. Drive means associated with the arms adjust them between a closed clamping position and an open release position. A lateral arm adjustment is provided to accommodate books of different thickness. A pivotal frame with associated reciprocating drive enables adjustment of the frame between a working position and an out of the way position, facilitating removal of the jacketed book from the apparatus.
