    摘要: A method for making a sealing element for a rotating control device used in rotary drilling systems is disclosed. The sealing element has a bore, a base region, and a nose region. The method comprises providing a mold for the sealing element for the rotating control device, adding fibers at a first concentration to a first liquid elastomer material containing polyurethane, placing the first liquid elastomer material having a first concentration of fibers into the mold, adding fibers at a second concentration to a second liquid elastomer material containing polyurethane, placing the second liquid elastomer material having a second concentration of fibers into the mold, heating the fibers and liquid elastomer in the mold, and forming a sealing element having a bore, a base region with a first concentration of fibers, and a nose region having a second concentration of fibers.

    摘要: A combination rubber injection gate system (24) and method of injection molding rubber to produce desired flow patterns in the rubber is disclosed. The combination gate (24) directs rubber through a first region (26) to flow at cross angles (38, 40) through the injection gate (24), relative to the direction of flow of the rubber (22) through the injection gate (24). The rubber (22) is then directed through an adjacent region (28) to flow through the injection gate (24) at a direction parallel to the direction of flow of the rubber (22) through the entire injection gate (24). The combination gate (24) yields a highly mixed and uniform flow of rubber (22) that is particularly useful when injection molding fiber-loaded rubber where it is desired to orient the fibers in a particular direction.

    摘要: A method for molding fiber reinforced articles with superior mechanical properties by injection molding. The method comprises heating a mixture of molding compound and chopper fiber to produce highly viscous substance. Pressure is applied to force the substance through an elongated injection slot oriented perpendicular to the major axial dimension of the finished article, causing the fiber planes to become oriented in a unique whorled, accordion like manner. The unusual fiber plane orientation reinforces the article such that it is resistant to crack propagation.
