Abstract: Embodiments reduce the draining of HF ignition energy via a data line for data transmission between a welding device and another part of a welding assembly. A decoupling apparatus is provided, in which a first data line portion of the data line is connected to a first coupling element and a second data line portion of the data line is connected to a second coupling element. The first coupling element and the second coupling element are interconnected via a wireless coupling path for galvanic separation of the data line, and a separate power supply is provided for each of the first coupling element and the second coupling element. The power supplies of the first coupling element and the second coupling element are decoupled from one another for a HF voltage on the data line as a result of the HF ignition voltage.

Abstract: Various embodiments may be generally directed to a welding system that monitors an output of the welding system to determine if an output arc should be extinguished or maintained. The welding system can compare an arc voltage output to a voltage threshold and a temporal threshold. When the arc voltage output exceeds the voltage threshold in an uninterrupted manner for the duration of the temporal threshold, an output weld current can be stopped. In turn, the output arc can be broken or extinguished. After a predetermined amount of time, the power source can be re-engaged to prepare for re-ignition of another arc. By tracking the amount of time the arc voltage output exceeds the predetermined threshold, a probability of unwanted arc outs can be reduced or minimized while still providing quick and reliable arc breaking when desired.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a welding operation are disclosed. A power source is in communication with a microphone present in an article of welding apparel such as the welding helmet of a welder. The welder provides spoken commands which instruct the power source to perform an action such as turning on a welding torch or increasing the speed of the feed of wire to the weld. This obviates the need for the welder to stop the welding operation and manually adjust the power source.

Abstract: A welding system includes an engine-driven welder generator that produces welding power. A welding torch receives the welding power and applies it to a stick electrode to initiate and maintain a welding arc. A parameter of the welding power, such as voltage, is monitored, such as to determine whether spikes occur during a short time after arc initiation. Based upon the monitored parameter, the engine speed is controlled. The engine speed may be increased or maintained at an elevated level if the monitored parameter indicates that particular types of electrode are being used, such as XX10 or cellulose electrodes.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for welding include initiating a pulse welding process includes initiating a welding arc by providing CC type welding power, maintaining the arc by providing CV type power. Then, pulse type welding power is provided. The method and system can be used to start short circuit, or other welding processes by providing short circuit power, or welding power of a given mode, instead of providing pulse power. Also, in one alternative, a method and system of initiating a pulse, short circuit, or given welding process includes initiating a welding arc by providing CC type welding power at least until a pseudo-equilibrium for the arc is established. Then, providing welding power in a pulse, short circuit, or the given mode.
