Abstract:
A quill 2 includes a fixing side quill 11 to be fixed to a spindle housing 50 and a leading end side quill 20A-20C having a whetstone 40 mounted thereon and removably connectable to the fixing side quill 11. In the connecting portions between the fixing side quill 11 and the leading end side quill 20A-20C, faces C, C′ that are perpendicular to the axis T of the quill 2 are combined with each other. A first drive shaft 17 is provided within the fixing side quill 11, and a second drive shaft 27, rotatable integrally with the whetstone 40, is provided within the leading end side quill 20A-20C. The first drive shaft 17 and second drive shaft 27 are removably connected to each other.
Abstract:
A vertical mill machine may be configured to facilitate a process of grinding a thread into a work piece. In one example, the method includes securing a fixture onto a planar surface of a vertical mill machine, the fixture being rotatable. The method further includes securing a work piece to the fixture and rotating the work piece about a Y-axis. The method yet further includes positioning a milling axle configured to move about an X-Y-Z-axis adjacent a circumferential surface of the work piece, wherein the milling axle includes a tool and wherein the tool is configured to rotate about the Y-axis. The method further includes rotating the tool about the Y-axis and contacting the tool with the circumferential surface of an exposed end of the work piece. The method yet further includes grinding a thread into the work piece with the tool.
Abstract:
A tool for machining a wall of a workpiece, made from a composite material, that can cut a groove in the wall, the tool including a head mounted integrally with a rod having a longitudinal axis and capable of being driven in rotation about the longitudinal axis. The head includes at least one main protruding annular rib with an outer surface covered with abrasive grains of predetermined particle size and with a radial height corresponding to the depth of the groove to be cut, and at least one auxiliary protruding annular rib with an outer surface covered with abrasive grains of predetermined particle size and with a radial height less than the radial height of a main rib. The auxiliary rib includes two circular ridges separated by a ring band that is flat and that can be conical in shape.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a method for dressing a multithread grinding worm, in which a flight of the multithread grinding worm is machined by means of a dressing tool. During machining of the multithread grinding worm, one of several flights of the grinding worm is eliminated, so that the number of flights of the grinding worm is reduced, thereby increasing the service life of the dressing tool and reducing the number of dressing tools to be kept in stock.

Abstract:
In combination with a lathe holding and slowly revolving, about its longitudinal axis, a work-piece to be screw-threaded with a tapering portion and a cylindrical portion, a tool holder ring is eccentrically mounted about the work-piece and is rapidly rotated about the work-piece in the same direction as the work-piece but at a relatively higher speed; while rotating, the tool holder ring is caused to advance longitudinally along the revolving work-piece; a plurality of cutting elements, radially secured in the holder, have cutting edges that intermittently and successively contact tangentially the work-piece during each revolution so as to move from the work-piece a chip with each revolution; the cutting elements are disposed in a series of planes and the number of planes is equal to the length of the tapering section divided by a pitch of the thread plus one, the depth of the thread being accomplished by the continuous chipping of subsequent cutting elements set on adjacent planes of the tool holder ring.
Abstract:
In a thread grinder which grinds a thread grove on an inner surface of a workpiece while a rotation axis of a grinding wheel shaft is inclined with respect to an axis of a main shaft, a centering master which has a cylindrical outer surface is mounted to the main shaft. A measuring unit including two measuring instruments such that probes can contact two edges of a grinding wheel is mounted to the centering master. The origins of the measuring instruments are set by the probes contacting the cylindrical outer surface of the centering master. The measuring unit is moved in the axial direction of the centering master to bring the probes of the two measuring instruments into contact with the edges of the grinding wheel, respectively. The position of the grinding wheel shaft is adjusted such that measured values obtained by measuring instruments become same.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of machining a female screw groove in a workpiece whereby the spindle of an internal grinding wheel for machining the workpiece into a female screw is tilted relative to the screw's axis at an angle (null) smaller than the lead angle (null) of the female screw. First, specifications of the female screw, data on the configuration of the thread groove, and the tilt angle are supplied to a program for calculating data on dressing of the grinding wheel wherein the locus of the groove on cross-sections normal to the axis of the grinding wheel and wheel dressing data are calculated. Second, the grinding wheel on the aforementioned spindle is shaped or dressed by simultaneous triaxial control of the rotation of the single point dresser about a b-axis, and the feed of the grinding wheel table along a z-axis and a cross slide along an x-axis based on the foregoing data. Thereupon, the female screw is machined with the dressed grinding wheel.
Abstract:
A conventional cutting tool grinder is fitted with an attachment which imparts translational motion to the cutting tool grinder table in accordance with the pitch of a removable master threaded member. A crank drives a pulley linked to the master threaded member and rotates a translating work piece in accordance with the thread on the master treaded member. Accordingly, a grinding tool can duplicate the thread of a work piece as dictated by the master threaded member. The mechanism of this invention can also be embodied as a separate bench mounted machine incorporating a grinding tool such that it does not require attachment to a conventional cutting tool grinder for its operation.
