    摘要: A multilayer cutting insert includes a first layer made of a first material and a second layer made of a second material. The first material is harder than the second material. The cutting insert has opposing first and second major side surfaces and a peripheral side surface which extends therebetween. The first major side surface is formed in the first layer and includes a non-uniform relief surface. The peripheral side surface is formed in the two layers and includes a non-uniform rake surface. The rake surface and the relief surface intersect at an edge, at least portion of which is a curved major cutting edge. The rake surface is formed in at least the first layer, and the relief surface is formed only in the first layer.

    摘要: A mono crystalline diamond cutting tool is provided which can perform ultra precision machining on a crystalline material or a hard and brittle material with good swarf discharge and reduced cutting resistance to improve a precision of a cut surface, and has less wear or microchipping of a cutting edge and thus achieves long life. A tip having a cutting edge ridge in a rounded shape at a front end is provided, and a portion of the cutting edge ridge serving at least as a cutting edge is formed to have constant roundness by intersecting a first conical surface as a rake face with a second conical surface as a flank. The cutting edge ridge is rounded with a radius of less than 100 nm, the first conical surface has a width of 1 to 5 μm, and a swarf release face substantially perpendicular to a cutting direction is provided in a portion on a side of the first conical surface opposite a line of the cutting edge ridge. An intersection of the first conical surface and the swarf release face has a rounded face with a radius of 0.1 to 1.0 μm. The first conical surface has a negative rake angle of 15° to 50°.

    摘要: The invention relates to an indexable cutting insert having a polygonal basic shape for chip forming machining, preferably for milling. The insert comprises an upper face and a lower face and edge surfaces connecting them. Each corner portion of the insert comprises a plurality of chamfers arranged at the transition between the connected edge surfaces, a first chamfer of which forms a minor cutting edge at the line of intersection with the upper face. At least two further planar, second chamfers are arranged between the first chamfer and the associated edge surface, said second chamfers forming an obtuseinternal angle with each other and forming cutting edges with the upper face and therefore the cut chip avoids compressing and avoids a quick destruction of the corner portions of the insert.

    摘要: Improved point geometry is provided for cutting inserts wherein the insert point is subjected to physical and thermal shock in first contacting the stock to be cut and is particularly applicable to cemented carbide or hard metal inserts. It has been found that the provision of about a 104.degree. included angle at the initial work-contacting or lead portion of the insert tip provides improved resistance to physical and thermal shock and longer insert life. While the new cutting insert is especially useful in interrupted cutting where the insert is continuously engaged and disengaged as in the case of a series of cutting inserts in a milling head in contacting an uneven surface, it is also applicable to boring and turning operations and to continuous cutting where the insert point is stressed.

The serrations provide the cutting edges with both a positive axial rake angle and a negative axial rake angle, thereby reducing delamination when machining a composite material.

    摘要: A cutting insert for milling comprises two major sides, two minor sides, and upper and lower sides. At least one pair of cutting edges is formed at the transition of the upper side with a major side and a minor side of the cutting insert. The upper side constitutes a chip surface, and the major and minor sides constitute clearance surfaces. Each pair of cutting edges comprises a major cutting edge extending along the major side, and a minor cutting edge extending along the minor side. The major and minor cutting edges intersect in the area of a cutting corner. The cutting corner is provided inside an imaginary extension line of a major part of the minor side. The major cutting edge slopes such that it forms an acute angle with the lower side. Each pair of cutting edges joins a first clearance surface protruding relative to a plane containing a major portion of the minor and major sides. Recesses are formed in the major sides.
