A rotary screening device for separating unwanted solid matter such as sewage, weeds, tar globules and fish from water which is to be used for special purposes such as water cooling or other plant processes. The device comprises a rotating hollow stack of closely spaced coaxially mounted annular discs, each of which is provided with peripheral teeth upon which unwanted solid matter may be caught and carried away to a collection zone and by scraper elements engaging annular tracking surfaces between the teeth on adjacent discs. The tracking surfaces have apertures or slits to permit passage of cleaned water to the interior of the hollow stack to which may be connected stationary ducting means for conveying the cleaned water therefrom.

The method includes monitoring an air filter operating condition, determining that the air filter operating condition is not within a pre-determined threshold, and providing a control signal to at least one air filter. The at least one air filter comprises a motor, drive shaft, rotatable passive shaft, continuous belt air filter, and a stationary filter brush. The drive shaft is rotatably coupled to the motor. The continuous belt air filter is coupled to the drive shaft and the passive shaft. The stationary filter brush is mounted against the continuous belt air filter. The method includes rotating, by the motor in response to the control signal, the drive shaft to translate the continuous belt air filter around and between the drive shaft and the rotatable passive shaft, and across the stationary filter brush.

A coarse weave belt is frictionally driven along a strainer bottom wall of an auxiliary tank suspended above the main filter tank, the permanent media belt of a coarse weave which allows the liquid and suspended finer solids to pass through while capturing the chips. A powered drag conveyor frictionally engages and drives the permanent media belt through the auxiliary tank, each diverging when returning across the top and bottom respectively of the auxiliary tank prior to being recirculated through the auxiliary tank.

A rotatable filter assembly comprises a rotor in a container for fibre suspension. The center of the rotor is formed by axial discharge tubes into which hollow filter elements, forming annular filter discs open. A collecting hopper extends into the center of the filter assembly. The filter elements keep separately, at least during part of the rotation turn, a lower pressure inside than outside. The filter assembly is characterized in that each of the axial discharge tubes (6) is permanently connected to its own accumulator chamber (9) for filtrate, which is provided to keep during a first part (16) of the rotation turn of said drum (4) such a pressure, preferably atmospheric pressure, that filtrate is caused to accumulate in the accumulator chamber (9), and that during a second part of the rotation turn of the drum (4) the accumulator chamber is caused to communicate with a device for filtrate discharge (11, 26) which is dimensioned to discharge the filtrate from tube and accumulator chamber during this second part of the rotation turn.
