摘要: Increasing the strength of tumor treating Fields (TTFields) or other alternating electric field treatments will typically increase the efficacy of treatment. This application discloses methods of determining where to position a plurality of electrode elements on a subject's body so that higher currents (which yield higher-strength fields) can be driven through the electrode elements during a treatment session without overheating the electrode elements. The position selection is based on the fact that some regions on the surface of a given subject's body are better at carrying heat away from the electrode elements, as compared to other regions that may only be a short distance away. And the methods disclosed herein rely on positioning the electrode elements at the regions that are better at carrying heat away from the electrode elements.

摘要: A method for treating cachexia in a subject in need thereof includes stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system of the subject thereby treating cachexia in the subject. Stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system can increase expression of urea cycle enzymes in the liver of the subject. Parasympathetic nervous system stimulation can comprise stimulating the vagus nerve, for example, the cervical vagus nerve or the hepatic branch of the vagus nerve. Pulses can be delivered at a frequency ranging from 1 Hz to 10 Hz or at a frequency of about 5 KHz.

摘要: Disclosed are methods of altering the electric impedance to an alternating electric field in a target site of a subject, comprising introducing a nanoparticle to a target site in the subject; and applying an alternating electric field to the target site of the subject, wherein the electric impedance in the target site of the subject to the alternating current is altered. Disclosed are methods for improving transport of a nanoparticle across a cell membrane of a cell, the method comprising applying an alternating electric field to the cell for a period of time, wherein application of the alternating electric field increases permeability of the cell membrane; and introducing the nanoparticle to the cell, wherein the increased permeability of the cell membrane enables the nanoparticle to cross the cell membrane. Disclosed are methods of imaging a cancer cell, the method comprising applying a first alternating electric field at a first frequency to the cancer cell for a first period of time, wherein application of the first alternating electric field at the first frequency to the cancer cell for the first period of time increases permeability of cell membranes of the cancer cell; introducing a nanoparticle to the cancer cell, wherein the increased permeability of the cell membranes enables the nanoparticle to cross the cancer cell membrane; and imaging the cancer cell.

摘要: Alternating electric fields (e.g., tumor treating fields, a.k.a. TTFields) may be applied to a target region in a subject's body via sheets of graphite that are implanted in the subject's body. One or more ports configured for affixation to the subject's body include or connect to one or more mating electrical connectors. Electrical conductors are positioned to route electrical signals between the electrical connector(s) and the sheets of graphite. The alternating electric fields are applied to the target region by applying (via the ports) an alternating voltage between two sheets of graphite that are positioned on opposite sides of the target region.
