Abstract: A patient positioning system includes a vertical link member and a carriage sub-system pivotably mounted thereto. The carriage sub-system includes a carriage having a first end and a second end, a first guide movably coupled to the carriage and having a first end and a second end, a first connecting shaft pivotably coupled to the first ends of the first guide and the second guide, and a second connecting shaft pivotably coupled to the second ends of the first guide and the second guide. The system further includes a patient bed mounted to the carriage sub-system and a motor drive system including a motor drive, a belt configured to be driven by the motor drive, a rotation brake system configured to selectively engage with or disengage from the carriage, and a slab brake system configured to selectively engage with or disengage from the first and second connecting shafts.

Abstract: The invention relates, in particular, to features of an apparatus applicable for use in the context of dental or medical CT imaging. The apparatus comprises a two longitudinally extending frame parts 11, 21, a support construction 12 for an X-ray source 14 and an image detector 15 and a first driving mechanism 16 arranged to move them about a rotation axis 13. A patient support 18 comprising a patient support surface 184 is mechanically connected to the first of the substantially longitudinally extending frame parts 11, which extends substantially in parallel with the first longitudinally extending frame part 11 and having at, or at the proximity of its two edges 181 which extend in the same direction as the first longitudinally extending frame part 11 i) at least one support element 183 or ii) at least one connecting construction 182 for at least one support element 83, the support element 183 being an accessory designed for a patient to hold on or help the patient to be still during an imaging exposure, or to help keeping a patient be still.

Abstract: A radiation therapy system includes an X-ray imaging system that is configured with a combined and simplified filter and collimator positioning mechanism. In addition, an X-ray imager of the RT system is only positioned at a few discrete locations within a plane that is a fixed distance from the imaging X-ray source when generating X-ray images. As a result, for each of these discrete imaging positions, the simplified filter and collimator positioning mechanism positions a specific collimator-filter combination in a specific location between the X-ray source and the imager.

Abstract: A motion-enable device includes a mechanical switch and a capacitive sensor with a sensing region that is located adjacent to the mechanical switch. The mechanical switch enables a first signal when closed or actuated that indicates that the mechanical switch is in an active state. The capacitive sensor enables a second signal when a conductive object is disposed in the sensing region, where the second signal indicates that the capacitive sensor is in an active state. Enablement of operation of an apparatus depends on receipt of both the first signal and the second signal. The mechanical switch and the capacitive sensor act as the two separate switches required by functional safety requirements for a motion enable device. Because the sensing region of the capacitive sensor is adjacent to the mechanical switch, the first and second signals are generated when an operator actuates the mechanical switch with a single digit.
