Abstract:
A method for preparing purified extract containing more abundant active ingredients such as catalpol derivatives from the extract of Pseudolysimachion rotundum var subintegrum than that prepared by the conventional preparation method disclosed in the prior art and the therapeutics or functional health food comprising the purified extract for treating and preventing inflammatory, allergic or asthmatic disease. The purified extract showed more potent anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy and anti-asthma activity than that prepared by the conventional preparation method disclosed in the prior art through various in vivo tests such as inhibition test on the reproduction of eosinophil, the release of immunoglobulin and inflammatory chemokines in plasma and bronchoalveolar fluid as well as the suppression of airway hyperresponsiveness and goblet cell hyperplasia in a OVA-sensitized/challenged mouse model.
Abstract:
A nutritional composition is proposed comprising a probiotic and milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) wherein the MFGM and the probiotics mutually potentiate their respective effects and promote complementary beneficial protective mechanisms that reflect physiological synergy. The nutritional composition can be an infant formula, infant cereals, baby food or health care nutritional product. The synergistic effect can include promoting immune maturation and/or immune education and/or reducing inflammation and/or treating or preventing disease or infections.
Abstract:
Provided is a liquid food composition capable of semi-solidifying in the stomach, which is a one-pack type product containing a water-soluble dietary fiber preliminarily added thereto and in the form of a liquid that can be easily taken, and stably sustains the liquid nature thereof during distribution and storage. The liquid food composition, which is capable of semi-solidifying in an acidic region, comprises a water-soluble dietary fiber (a), a specific metal compound (b), a protein (c) and an emulsifier (d), and the particle size distribution of particles contained in said liquid food composition shows two or more peaks in a neutral region.
Abstract:
This invention relates to methods for the treatment and prevention of metabolic disorders, digestive disorders, and pathological conditions related thereto whereby a patient is given a nutrient food combination comprising 1) mechanically processed bran and 2) meat or a dried product comprising fruit, vegetables, berries, or any combination thereof. Diluted vinegar may be included.
Abstract:
A method is provided for reducing the extent of or occurrence of long-term adverse health effects in human infants, comprising feeding to said infants when newborn a nutrient-containing-formula providing not more than 1 gram of protein per 100 ml of formula and/or not more than 50 kcal per 100 ml of formula. Also disclosed are methods of administering the infant formulas to reduce the occurrence or extent of insulin resistance in an individual later in life, to reduce the occurrence or extent of obesity or atherosclerosis in an individual later in life, or combinations thereof, by feeding newborn infants the newborn infant formula described herein.
Abstract:
Nutritional compositions with targeted sodium levels for young children (e.g., ages 1-4 years) are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides nutritional compositions having a targeted level of sodium, made from wholesome foods that provide macronutrients and micronutrients needed in a child's daily diet and are developmentally appropriate for this age group. The sodium levels of the nutritional compositions may be less than or equal to about 200 mg per 100 g nutritional composition. Methods of making nutritional compositions with targeted sodium levels while also achieving acceptable product flavors at both pilot and factory levels are also provided. The batching methods may include adding a slurry of ice, cold water and KCl to a batched product after an initial cooling step and before packaging.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a nutrient composition which contains at least a carbohydrate, a lipid, a protein, and a mineral, and is liquid or semisolid, characterized in that the volume-based median size (d50) of particles in the nutrient composition is 5 to 100 μm and water-insoluble particles having a protein insolubilized by a divalent cation are contained as a major component of the nutrient composition, or a nutrient composition which contains at least a carbohydrate, a lipid, a protein, and a mineral, and is liquid or semisolid, characterized in that water-insoluble particles having a protein insolubilized by a divalent cation are contained as a major component of the nutrient composition and the mass of the protein with respect to the total moles of divalent ions forming the water-insoluble particles is 1.5 to 3 g/mmol.
Abstract:
A nutritional composition for administration to an infant which composition comprises, on a dry matter basis, from 2.5 to 15.0 wt % of an oligosaccharide mixture consisting of N-acetylated oligosaccharide(s), galacto-oligasaccharide(s) and sialylated oligosaccharide(s) with the proviso that the composition comprises at least 0.02 wt % of an N-acetylated oligosaccharide, at least 2.0 wt % of a galacto-oligosaccharide and at least 0.04 wt % of a sialylated oligosaccharide and that the N-acetylated oligosaccharide(s) comprise 0.5 to 4.0% of the oligosaccharide mixture, the galacto- oligosaccharide(s) comprise 92.0 to 98.5% of the oligosaccharide mixture and the sialylated oligosacchardide(s) comprise 1.0 to 4.0% of the oligosaccharide mixture. The composition is useful for administration to an infant in the first six months of life to reduce the risk of obesity later in life.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to nutritional compositions comprising a prebiotic component for inhibiting adherence of pathogens in the gastrointestinal tract of a subject and to the prebiotic component, which comprises galactooligosaccharide, polydextrose or any mixture thereof. The nutritional compositions of the present disclosure comprise a fat or lipid source, a protein source, and a carbohydrate source comprising an effective amount of the prebiotic component.
