Abstract: A microneedle with very high drug loading is described, and comprises a base and a penetrating tip, the tip having a dimension ranging from about 50 nm to about 50 μm, wherein at least 80% of the microneedle by volume consists of heat-meltable active pharmaceutical ingredient (v/v). The meltable active pharmaceutical ingredient is characterised by being heat-meltable (i.e. it can be heated to a molten form), is solid at 25° C., and has an ability to form a glassy, amorphous form following melting by heating and cooling with a glass transition temperature greater than 25° C. A method of fabricating a microneedle comprises the steps of providing a microneedle micromold comprising a micromold substrate and one or more holes in the upper surface of the micromold substrate, wherein the interior surface of the hole in the micromold substrate defines an exterior surface of the microneedle, moulding a meltable drug in the microneedle micromold to form a microneedle, and separating the microneedle from the microneedle micromold. Microneedles of the invention may incorporate up to 99% drug or more.

Abstract: The invention provides a solution based process based on high molecular weight block copolymer (BCP) nanolithography for fabrication of periodic structures on large areas of optical surfaces. In one embodiment there is provided method of fabricating a nano-patterned surface for application in a photonic, optical or other related device, said method comprising the steps of: providing a substrate material; depositing a block copolymer (BCP) material on the substrate material; and phase separating the BCPs using at least one solvent selected to facilitate polymer chain mobilisation and lead to phase separation to fabricate said nano-patterned surface; wherein the nano-patterned surface comprises an ordered array of structures and having a domain or diameter of 100 nm or greater. A new photonic device and optical device is also described.

Abstract: Provided herein are methods for treating an individual having (suffering from) an acute myocardial infarction and drug eluting stents useful for treating such individuals. These methods include treating an individual by introducing, such as by surgically inserting, at a site of an acute coronary artery occlusion upstream of the site of acute myocardial infarction, a drug eluting stent (DES) that is capable of eluting from 25 pg to 950 pg of IGF-1 directly into the coronary circulation. The treatment is specifically directed to stimulation of repair or survival of damaged cardiac muscle or left ventricular remodeling.
