Abstract: A system and method for imaging gamma- and x-ray, and charged particles sources employing a three dimensional array of scintillation elements arranged surrounding an emission source. According to a preferred embodiment, each element of the array comprises a scintillator element, a solid-state photon detector, and processing electronics to output an electronic signal. The elements may be efficiently packed in both the X-Y plane and stacked in the Z-axis, to provide depth of interaction information. The elements of the array are preferably hierarchically arranged with control electronics provided together for subarray modules (e.g., an n×m×1 module), and synchronization electronics provided at a larger scale. The modules preferably communicate with a control system through a shared addressable packet switched digital communication network with a control and imaging system, and receive control information from that system through the network.

Abstract: There are approximately 35,000 abandoned and unplugged oil and gas wells in New York with no known location. Unplugged wells emit methane, a strong greenhouse gas, which has the potential to significantly contribute to global climate change and act as a pollutant chemical. A long-range UAV equipped with methane sensors, MagPike (atomic magnetometer), and LiDAR sensors successfully detected unmarked well sites using characteristic magnetic signals generated by vertical metal piping preserved in the ground. The optimal flight altitude and transect spacing was determined for detection driven by the total field strength of the Earth's magnetic field and the height of tree canopies determined by LiDAR. Traditional methods of identifying oil and gas wells are costly and less powerful in acquisition of data such as using large magnetometers attached to helicopters.

Abstract: Systemic fungal infections are an increasingly prevalent health problem. Amphotericin B (AmB), a hydrophobic polyene antibiotic, remains the drug of choice for life-threatening invasive fungal infections. Embodiments disclosed herein are directed telodendrimer (TD) nanocarriers having freely engineered core structures for AmB encapsulation to reduce AmB aggregation status. The reduced aggregation status correlates with the optimized antifungal activity and the attenuated hemolytic properties, as well as reduced cytotoxicity to mammalian cells. The disclosed optimized TD nanocarrier for monomeric AmB encapsulation significantly increases the therapeutic index and reduces the in vivo toxicity and enhances antifungal effects in mouse models with C. albicans infection in comparison to two common clinical formulations, i.e., Fungizone and AmBisome.
